5. Uh... Rodeo... As I understand it, you're about to have winter

(in your city). At least, that's what the weatherman keeps saying here.

Perhaps you need to meander across the room and sashay to your window for a gander outside?

:D

7. According to what I've read, it's got something to do
with the Gulf Stream, which is fizzling out. The Gulf Stream is a warm current in the Atlantic that helps Europe stay warmer during the winter -- they've had a very harsh one this year. I'm not sure why it makes our winters colder.

8. I'm sure it's a combination of things, global warming, trends that only
come every few centuries, whatever. But we here in the 'Big O' (the 'O' is for Oriface') haven't had but maybe two weeks of winter back in the beginning of December I believe. We got some snow, maybe an inch.

10. Snow Picture
I am in Westfield, New Jersey, about 30 miles west of New York City. Plenty of snow here!

Out my kitchen window, looking on the roof.

Where's the road?

12. We've had warm Januarys before.
Many years I've heard people ask where is spring and I answer, "It was 3 days in January". I expect that we'll have a very rainy spring again this year.
However, we are now expected to get 16-20 inches in NYC and there is thunder and lightning. There is also an eye to this storm, which is very unusual.

13. An eye in the storm..
IS unusual, but 'round here, Philadelphia, PA: they are calling it a "Northeasterner", big, bad storm, with thunder and lightening! Yup, first time I've heard thunder and seen lightening during a snow storm. Freaky!!!

15. The non-stop coverage on NBC said...
that there has been thunder and lightning during blizzards before (and I heard it myself so I didn't need them to tell me it's happening) but that the eye has only occurred once before during a blizzard here. An eye and a revolving storm is usually associated with warmer temperatures. They did suggest that the water temp has been warmer than usual.

14. Not only no winter but also no rain
None. Nada. Fire season looks to be horrendous. We live within sight of the Gila National Forest and we're already preparing: cutting brush, getting appraisals for insurance purposes, planning to keep a tin box with important papers near the door. I wonder if global warming will turn the Southwest U.S. into a new Sahara???

The only good thing about the warm winter is keeping heating bills down. We've kept the thermostat on 60 and even so, our propane bill for January was $208. What would it have been if we'd had a normal January?????????

17. it'll be back to 50 by Thursday
In my childhood, we regularly had this much snow ... we kept a sled to buy groceries and used it every year. Piles left by cleaning crews would sit for weeks.
