Now they are bashing Dems for NOT speaking up during Wiretap briefings
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 11:10 AM by spanone
Can you believe this shit? So now, it's the Dems fault for Bush* breaking the wiretap laws because they didn't speak up at briefings. First of all, the law would not allow them to 'speak up' about it. Jesus, this shit will never end.

1. Weren't the few Dems in the loop, like Rockefeller, sworn to
secrecy? They can't have it both ways. :eyes:

8. Now I get it. Pat Roberts is QUITE THE SMART-ASS.
Pulled out a prescription bottle and told Daschle to take a memory pill. Fuck you Roberts.

4. I believe you are talking about MTP, where
Rep Pete Hoekstra and Sen Roberts looked like idiots, correct? (I used to babysit Pete's kids...eep!)

I would have liked to see Daschle and Harmon say we should STOP the illegal wiretapping instead of so emphatically saying we should keep doing it but change the law to include it. Hello, dems? First the Patriot Act, now this -- please protect our constitutional rights already.

to the American people right now on MTP. I am ashamed of all of them.

7. If Bush* can ignore FISA law, he can ignore ANY law,
That's how precedent works. If he wins this battle, we LOSE the war.

9. Roberts lost all my respect since he lied about phase two of 9/11
Remember he publicly stated that after the election there would be a in depth investigation into who was responsible, but he then never held those investigations. He is a puke of the first order.

MTP; it's up next, but so is This Week. I'll forego Roberts' as I can't stomach him.
How can they agree if they don't have all the necessary info they requested? Mind-boggling.

24. They just had one Dem say that we shouldn't make an issue out of it
until we could prove that we understood national security?

I think this is where the leadership problem in the Dem party begins to kick in.

26. There is no excuse!
The democrats are in on it or they are being blackmailed.

If they are being blackmailed they would know that everyone else was being blackmailed as well so if they all just stand up together and speak the truth we will forgive them.

But if they are in on it, looks like we are going to have to arrest Bush ourselves, like the post on the greatest page yesterday.

After we take care of the republicans, we go after the democrats. We cannot let them get away with the pretense any longer. I want a real democracy dammit! The kind I thought we had when I was a kid.

10. Rockefeller letter
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/docs/rock-cheney2.html

http://mediamatters.org/items/200602060010

I am writing to reiterate my concern regarding the sensitive intelligence issues we discussed today with the DCI , DIRNSA , and Chairman Roberts and our House Intelligence Committee counterparts.

Clearly the activities we discussed raise profound oversight issues. As you know, I am neither a technician nor an attorney. Given the security restrictions associated with this information, and my inability to consult staff or counsel on my own, I feel unable to fully evaluate, much less endorse these activities.

As I reflected on the meeting today, and the future we face, John Poindexter's TIA project sprung to mind, exacerbating my concern regarding the direction the Administration is moving with regard to security, technology, and surveillance.

Without more information and the ability to draw on any independent legal or technical expertise, I simply cannot satisfy lingering concerns raised by the briefing we received.

Rockefeller added: "I am retaining a copy of this letter in a sealed envelope in the secure spaces of the Senate Intelligence Committee to ensure that I have a record of this communication."

appear to be more upset about the leaks about this program than the breaking of the FISA law.

about the NSA spying didn't come from Congress, it came from the administration.

22. Only the Big 8 knew about.
Rockefeller wrote a letter in his own handwriting, but I guess that doesn't count. Of course, the Big 8 would have been penalized had they leaked the information, so you have a circular argument taking place.

27. actually, i have the same critisim. and that's why our party keeps losing
in public opinion polls.

the dems SHOULD have spoken up, and Jane Harmann is a fucking idiot for her stupidity in all of this - Rockefeller is worse than a jerk for not speaking up. It's an honest critism, but that's not a reason to not deal with the issue now and lock these bastards up in the white house/nsa/pentagon for high crimes and misdemanors now.

28. Sneaky repugs put the dems in a box on this one.
If the Dems expressed concern for civil liberties and spoke out about it, they would have been breaking several criminal statutes regarding national security and leaking classified information. If this whole plan was exposed and the Dems cried foul, the repugs likely planned to blame the Dems for not voicing their concern at the infringement of civil liberties in the first place.
