Schwarzenegger Eyes Reshaping California Female Inmate System
Schwarzenegger Eyes Reshaping California Female Inmate System
Written for the web by Jason Kobely, Internet News Producer

Hundreds of California female prison inmates could soon be moving out of jail cells and into neighborhood correctional centers under a plan endorsed by Gov. Schwarzenegger, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

Under the proposal, 40 percent of the state's women prisoners would be moved from California jails into secure, privately run facilities aimed at offering education, job training, drug and alcohol counseling programs.

The plan, which is part of Schwarzenegger's budget proposal offered last month, would affect approximately 4,500 women. Only inmates convicted of non-violent crimes would be eligible for the program.

1. Privately run brothels?
The Gropenator may have a nasty plan here.

2. Sorry, but prison systems should not be for-profit in nature
Those "privately run" facilities need to be put out of business because if they are dependent upon profits to survive, then they will support whoever they can who will exacerbate societal problems, and the best way to fill up the prisons is to support candidates who will attack social programs that give opportunities to people to get ahead, not wallow in poverty with the only escape being crime for survival.

5. from the little information in the article good for him
lots of problems with the justice system and who is in prison nation wide, but especially calif,.... and especially women who tend to be there for drugs, or dealing or non violent. i say this is a good thing. i can still want the man out, and not like most of his proposals but to diss something that makes sense, doesnt make sense. lets hope more states start looking into this.
