The next time a Neo Con Whore brings up the Chappaquidick coverup...
Refer them to this article at Editor and Publisher:

Although I doubt it will shut them up because they are above the law.

"While E&P was first to raise the question about the delay Sunday afternoon, Frank James, reporter in the Chicago Tribune's Washington bureau, put his how spin on it later in the day, asking, "How is it that Vice President Cheney can shoot a man, albeit accidentally, on Saturday during a hunting trip and the American public not be informed of it until today?"

Indeed, others raised questions as well. "There was no immediate reason given as to why the incident wasn't reported until Sunday," The Dallas Morning News observed. "The sheriff's office in Kenedy County did not respond to phone calls Sunday."

The president, who was at the White House over the weekend, was informed about the incident in Texas after it happened Saturday by Chief of Staff Andrew Card and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove and was updated on Sunday, press secretary Scott McClellan said.

But neither the White House nor the vice president's staff announced the shooting. The Washington Post reported late Sunday that Cheney's office did not make a public announcement."

2. When a crime is committed, you get one or more of several reactions
cover up as in hit and run OR

you get:

1. a delay til the perp sobers up and can be coherent to do a police statement

2. a delay til the PR team of a VIP who was involved in an alleged crime can concoct an announcement and control the spin

3. same as number 3 but they want to make sure the outcome is better ...as in, the guy didn't die. Different Press statement, in that case.

All delays are to protect the alleged perp, more than anything. And it's usually a perp with clout.

4. It's wrong, but the hardhearted part of me was hoping he killed the guy.
Try making Kennedy jokes after Cheney shoots someone to death.

9. Of course it was Whittington's fault
People don't shoot people; guns shoot people.

See how fast they'll spin on a talking point when it's Bush or Cheney in the mix? Suddenly, guns just go off of their own accord or bicycles slip on dry ground that hasn't been rained on in weeks. How can you possibly fault the person holding the gun when someone gets blasted when that person is the Vice President of the United States of America? Do you want the terrorists to win or something? I ask you?

Maybe we should make up some Purple Heart band-aids like those jokesters at the Republican National Convention did a couple of years ago.

12. From Wikipedia...
On November 6, 1963, 2 days after she turned 17, Bush (then Laura Welch) was driving her Chevrolet sedan with her classmate Judy Dyke. It was shortly after 8 pm on a clear night when Welch entered the intersection of U.S. Highway 349 and Texas Farm Road 868. Welch drove through the intersection's stop sign and collided with a Chevrolet Corvair sedan driven by classmate and close friend Michael Dutton Douglas, also 17. Welch and Dyke sustained minor injuries; Douglas was pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Memorial Hospital. Welch was not criminally charged in connection with the collision. In May 2000, a two-page police report about the car crash was made public.
