Did Cheney shoot lawyer to distract from his role in leak?
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 07:22 AM by rfranklin
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and wounded a companion during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, spraying the fellow hunter in the face and chest with shotgun pellets.

Harry Whittington, a millionaire attorney from Austin, was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Corpus Christi hospital Sunday.

“He is stable and doing well. It was almost like he was spending time with me in my living room,” said hospital administrator Peter Banko, who visited Whittington.

WASHINGTON - Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald should investigate Vice President Dick Cheney and others in the CIA leak probe if they authorized an aide to give secret information to reporters, Democratic and Republican senators said Sunday.

Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., called the leak of intelligence information “inappropriate” if it is true that unnamed “superiors” instructed Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, to divulge the material on Iraq

13. Agreed, he may actually be rattled by the possibility that he
isn't completely above the law and will have to go back to plain old corporate theft and an ordinary Lear jet instead of AF2. What a comedown!

2. I don't think it was intentional, but,
knowing how our media misreports everything, by the end of the week Cheney will have gained so much sympathy from the media's spin that you'd think he was the one shot by some rave lunatic who was just trying to impress Jodie Foster.

4. The Inclination To Default To Conspiracy Is Boggling.
Some conspiracies I see on here give me pause for thought and at times have been more logical than what I had prior believed.

Not this one. This one's just preposterous on every level.

8. Because Your Post Didn't Seem Like It Was Satire.
There were other threads that actually seriously considered this absurd notion. If yours was meant as a joke, sorry for stepping on your fun.

5. This is a tough time for the Vice President, he is under extreem
amount of pressure and we can not comment on ongoing investigations, including shooting at freinds while hunting.
I am sure the VP deeply regrets his actions.

NOT!

:sarcasm:

9. No, but the media put this on front page, and buried his authorizing Libby
to release classified information to the press in Friday's newspapers. This according to a January 23rd letter Patrick Fitzgerald wrote to Libby's lawyers.

10. I don't imagine Cheney really needs a motive to shoot anyone
I kinda get the feeling he'd shoot someone for just being in his way...

"Well, he got in my way. So I shot him"

11. It sure serves as a distraction from everything that's important,
such as fake radical protesters re the cartoon controversy.

Iran - some perspective
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=395249&mesg_id=395249

translation of excerpts from an article (in Norwegian) published yesterday:

"I'm jumping out of the car and walks towards the demonstration. 60-70 iranians are shouting slogans against Norway, Denmark and the USA. Broken windows and dark spots on the white building is sad to see. Now, a little hour after the demo startet, the situation is seemingly under control. Riot police keeps demonstrators away from the building with shields and batons. The demonstrators shouts «Down with Norway», «Down with Israel» and «Allah is great». I hide my Norwegian passport to avoid their anger.
Three young people walks towards me. «We're ashamed. Embassies is supposed to be a place where people should feel safe. The demonstrators are idiots. They're few and doesn't represent the opinion of the people», the students say. When they hear I'm from Norway, they excuse the behaviour of the demonstrators even more. «These people doesn't think, they just follow orders. No one dare to demonstrate on their own in Iran. These people have strong forces behind them. It makes us sad and scared», says the students.
The three young people aren't alone in making excuses outside the partly destroyed Norwegian embassy in Iran. A number of Iranians comes by to say they're sorry. And ashamed. «We're 70 million people in Iran. The demonstrators are fewer than hundred. They're sent from the government», a man says."

12. Well, if Cheney is charged with Reckless Endangerment - as the
average idiot would be - he'd have to step down. If Fitzgerald indicts him, it wouldn't be as damaging to Shrub if Cheney was already out. (I'm now going to polish my tin foil chapeau.)
