Was Cheney tested for alcohol?
Is this the reason it took 24 hours report the incident? Why haven't the news programs mentioned this? Everytime someone is shot in my town, the first comment on the news is, "The suspect is being tested for the presence of drugs or alcohol."

3. Does Texas require an investigation for all shootings while hunting?
CNN keeps calling it an "accidental" shooting, but that determination can't be made until there is an investigation and there is a determination that it was an accident. Any shooting would require a full blown investigation by the police department. Will Cheney get a pass on this?

4. Gunshot wounds are supposed to be investigated immediately as
potential crimes. That's a first rule of local law enforcement. What gives?

My guess, the SS stepped in and put the old kabosh on any criminal investigation. Sorta reminds me of what happened with that Doctor in New Orleans was was illegally detained by National Guardsmen in Cheney's security detail after he swore at Cheney after the hurricane last Fall. But, this incident is perhaps even more serious, because of the wounding.

5. And Remember the guy is still in the Intensive Care Unit ...
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 09:59 AM by ShortnFiery
That does not fit my medical definition of "Very Stable" ... Whittington could easily take a turn for the worse and become deceased!?!

We need to monitor this guy's condition ... ICU equates to Gravely Ill! We're talking more than a few pellets pepper spraying this man.

The news reports that this shooting did NOT threaten any of his major organs is an out-and-out lie. You do NOT get admitted to ICU (even if you're filthy rich) unless you are in danger of dying. Why the hell do you think they call it INTENSIVE CARE UNIT?!?

14. Unless you consider the face, neck and chest to be non-vital.
Good thing they were hunting quail instead of antelope (or some nearly-extinct species of large predator (sounds like Cheney, himself, sort of). Birdshot are the size of bee-bees, whereas buckshot are more like musket balls.

6. He was probably treated with more care than the man he shot.
"Oh my god, Vice President Cheney, you just shot that man! Are you ok? Did the recoil bruise your arm? Let's get you a cup of coffee. That must have been traumatic for you."

7. Perhaps, but we have NO INFORMATION regarding

THE VICTIM's condition from the attending doctors.

I've known Cardiac Care and Intensive Care Nursing Staff. They are NOT political. If Whittington had NOT had "life threatening" injuries, they would have hired several nurses to attend him in a deluxe private hospital room.

Anyone who's worked in ICU KNOWs that it is NOT a restful place, i.e., doctors and nurses are tripping over each other trying to keep these gravely ill patients alive. There is NO Privacy because these poor souls usually have tubes inserted into many parts of their body.

No, I'd bet my paycheck that Whittington is STILL gravely ill. We need an attending doctor report and also to HEAR LIVE from Whittington himself. How do we know for sure that he is not so ill that he is unable to make a statement?!?

What exactly do we really know about his condition? Remember it was only a LEAK that goosed that Lady Armstrong to report this incident. If Cheney's folks got their way 100%, this SHOOTING would NOT have been reported.

This is BIG!

10. I'd have to agree with every point.
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 10:18 AM by ReadTomPaine
Simple common sense dictates that a tight shotgun blast to the face and chest is a life threatening injury to anyone, much less a 78 year old man.

Here's the real question for Sherlock Holmes. What the heck is a high powered civil rights attorney doing associating with one of the worst abusers of civil rights in the USA? This is like Simon Wiesenthal double dating with Adolf Eichmann. Whittington needs to pick his friends a touch more carefully, I'd say.

12. Yep. Bad Shape. He is in a trauma unit. The hospital admin.
totally danced around his condition update on CNN this am. Said he was stable but no qualifier-critical, serious or good which is SOP in all hospitals.

8. And just who would administer the test
to his Royally Inaccurate self?
A government official? Local Texas authorities?

They do not hold themselves accountable to any law,
local or otherwise.
