My first civics lesson. 1974 or 5 age 7 or 8 years. |
|
I was riding in the car with my father and asked him what Watergate was. I had heard the word on the news. He said the president had told a lie and that the American people had fired him. He said that the president must always tell the truth and that anyone who lies cannot be president.
Okay, so we have gone from that to Reagan pretending he did not know about the arms for hostages thing to Bush lying in order to start an illegal war and then admitting to an illegal spy program and then having the nerve to attempt to justy it.

2. I was older than you (11) & my parents said "You wouldn't understand" |
|
when I asked them about Watergate. (They were Republicans.) I was smart enough to listen and watch the news and figure out what was going on all by myself

3. You're lucky. Mine was the McCarthy witch hunt |
|
and I was 4 or 5. My parents were the first on the block to get a TV so my mother, who'd had a brief and unsatisfying flirtation with the CPUSA in the 30s, could watch it on the old Dumont network. As I watched her, day after day, white knuckled and angry, I learned that there were powerful rich white men whose only duty in life was to ruin the good people around them.
It was a hell of a lesson. To this day, I find it difficult to sign petitions or register for anything political.

4. But they didn't lie about sexual relations! |
|
That is the difference. All the neo-cons are worried about is sex, sex sex
Think about it. They impeached Clinton because he got a BJ in the White House. They have passed laws all over the country banning gay marriage - and doing with the cause that sex between a man and a man is wrong and all that crap.
They want to ban abortion and teach abstinence, refraining from sex.
The whole problem is these people haven't been laid for so long they are afraid to see someone naked.

6. What I never understood |
|
when I was growing up, a gentleman always protected the reputation of a lady. He always said that he and the lady never had sex. And all those old farts who "convicted" Clinton knew that.

5. It will be interesting to consider how we will talk about this |
|
down the road. Probably we'll basically blame Bush or maybe Rove for everything and exonerate ourselves. Or else we'll be locked in detention camps and probably won't say to much for fear of them cutting off our cabbage supply. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com
