Media Matters covers Newsweek editor calling Dean insane.
Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 01:36 PM by madfloridian
If you don't want the managing editor of Newsweek saying insulting things about our Democrats...then take part in contacting them. If he says it about Howard Dean, then he could say it about anyone. It was a snide remark, and he needs to hear from us.

Contact info at the link, as well as the video of that smirking editor...and I guess Safire laughing in the background.

"Newsweek's Meacham called Sen. Feingold "a sane Howard Dean"
Summary: On NBC's Meet the Press, Newsweek managing editor John Meacham called Sen. Russ Feingold "a sane Howard Dean."
During a discussion of potential 2008 presidential candidates on the January 1 broadcast of NBC's Meet the Press, Newsweek managing editor Jon Meacham referred to Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) as "a sane Howard Dean, basically." Dean ran for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination and currently serves as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

From a discussion that included host Tim Russert, former New York Times columnist William Safire, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson, presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Meacham on the January 1 broadcast of NBC News' Meet the Press:

RUSSERT: It is interesting, Americans seem to like governors as presidents. If you look back at -- through our history, the last two Democrats, Clinton and Carter, Bush, Reagan. It's quite interesting. Picking up on Bill and Gene's theme, though, Jon and Doris, Russ Feingold is really positioning himself to the left of Hillary Clinton , opposing the Patriot Act, opposing the war, coming out foursquare on the eavesdropping, really trying to position himself in a way where he can say to a lot of liberal groups, "Hey, I am very authentic and real on the issues that matter to you."

MEACHAM: Yeah, a sane Howard Dean, basically, I think is where he is. I think that's true."

1. Meacham is a disgusting pig. He trashes any Dem who rises to any position.

He's a Howard Fineman wannabe. He wants to be THE top mediawhore in DC.

The MEDIA made Dean out to be crazy. If I believed the mediawhores I would also believe that Clinton deserved to be impeached, Gore is a liar, and Kerry is aloof.

Simply said - Media lies daily for their fascist masters.

:eyes: Which explains why Newsweek is "Newsweak."

3. I meant he WANTS the TV access and notoriety of Fineman. You have to be
one heck of a mediawhore to try to beat out Fineman's whoremanship.

6. Isn't he also the mediawhore responsible for pushing the religious stories
through at Newsweek?

I seem to recall he was part of the gang promoting the idea of moral values as the perview of the GOP and Bush. What a colossal lie that turned out to be - just a bunch of fascists pulling the strings of their EndTimes-believing puppets.

10. Ummm...Kerry IS aloof.
But that had nothing to do with why he didn't win the election. The media buried him in a tidal wave of non-coverage.

15. No one who actually met him says he's aloof. GOP operatives have worked
for over 30 years planting talking points against Kerry, who they admitted was articulate and charismatic.

Of course, I wouldn't doubt that he was careful about who got close to him during IranContra and BCCI - must have been hard to trust anyone in DC at that time when most of DC was set against his efforts.

16. When they say he is aloof, I don't think they mean he's
not articulate or charismatic. I thought it was a knock on his social skills...that he is too much of a Senator and not enough of a "guy you'd like to have a beer with," which sadly, has become a big prerequisite for presidential candidates in the last twenty years or so.

candidates. He said that Kerry was the one who held up after that entire time - he was the one at the end of the day that you most wanted to share beers with.

Of course, you didn't see many talk shows asking Shapiro to talk about his summation. Even though he wrote a book about it.

The media also buried the report out of Iowa that the service people from hotels and restaurants who worked with all the candidates throughout Iowa that year, voted Kerry as the kindest, most thoughtful and most gracious to them.

21. Thanks for telling me that.
I've always been a big believer in the way people treat service-people being an excellent indicator of their personalities. My opinion of Kerry just shot up.

You can fool anyone with a visit or two, but an entire year is a whole lot harder to pull off if you're not genuine.

If you don't speak out against the media's lies about Dean, don't come crying about the attacks on YOUR favorite when they start - and they WILL start.

8. An alternate theory Tim
RUSSERT: ... Russ Feingold is really positioning himself to the left of Hillary Clinton , opposing the Patriot Act, opposing the war, coming out foursquare on the eavesdropping, really trying to position himself in a way where he can say to a lot of liberal groups, "Hey, I am very authentic and real on the issues that matter to you."

Perhaps the Senator isn't "positioning himself" but actually BELIEVES in those issues.

Considering he was against the Patriot Act, the only senator at the time, in 2001, maybe his concern for being to the left of Hillary Clinton for the 2008 presidency wasn't his rationale. Just a thought.

Geesh just get a job WITH the White House for crying out loud.

I watched him on MTP and would swear he had to check everything with that OLD douchebag Safire as he said it.

Gee did Newsweek ever do anything at all to promote or continue the White Water lies??? (I just finished "The Hunting of the Presidency").

18. The beltway insiders are going after Dean
Gov Dean is not an insider, and probably doesn't want to be one. I don't know if there is a way to fight this. The whores are no different now than they were five years ago.
Meacham does it because he'll look cute for all his diner party friends. "Oh, Jon, you are just so funny!"

Not to any of our Democrats. I wrote Meet the Press as well, because Russert's comments were out of line also about Feingold.
