Cindy basher here--need some responses
please post to this Cindy basher here:

http://www.progressiveu.org/163832-why-does-cindy-sheehan-inspire-so-much-hate#comment-3385

We were having a terrific discussion over there until a Right-winged zombie came there and personally attacked.

1. I certainly didn't respond to this to bash Cindy Sheehan.
She is a grieving mother and as a parent, I can think of no greater nightmare than to lose a child. She is also against this president and this war, as am I. Vehemently. Profusely. Unequivocally.

My only problem with Cindy is that she seems to be going through the slow and painful process of making a caricature of herself either by her own doing or by taking really bad advice from other people.

The protest at Bush's Crawford ranch was brilliant. Associating with Jesse "I have no credibility left" Jackson was a horribly bad idea.

Going to the SOTU address... good idea. Going in with an anti-war t-shirt instead of trying to appear as dignified as possible and looking like just another pain-in-the-ass protester to security guards... bad idea. Yeah she got some press, but she got press for being thrown out, not because of her cause... and she never got her point accross.

Every stunt she pulls now seems like just that... a stunt.

If she wants to get her point across, she needs to act more strategically instead of these knee-jerk things designed to draw a crowd.

3. Familiar with other families of US war dead.
In San Diego. we know Fernando Suarez personally. The father has become very active with families of US war dead in opposing this war. Fernando's grief is real and deep. HIs family is overwhealmed by their loss.
Fernando was shell shocked for a year and decided to do something. I say that is a way of coping with grief. He wants the military recruiters forced to come to terms with too often their bloated stories of benefits. And kids need an alternative education as to the merits of going to Iraq and educational alternatives to joining the military. This is what his organization does.
Fernando now raises his son's child. Actions such as this can help the grief process when you realize your son died for nothing.
My respect goes to Cindy Sheehan and I would have been proud to vote for her as a senator. Wish she could be in the Senate. That would really be a chance to tell truth to power. What a lost opportunity to confront the likes of warmongers such as McCain and Liebermann. They would not know the truth if it bit them in the arse.

5. I strongly disagree
She's not making a caricature of herself. The media is doing it, by twisting what she does around. Just like every action that any Democratic or left-leaning person does. Remember, this is the same media that turned 300,000+ people marching on Washington into something like a few hundred.

7. Focus on Sheehan
My focus on Sheenan was not as a public figure. But, having met the family of Iraqi US war dead. Their grief is real. I have seen it . My feelings about our friend Fernando, I suspect applies to Sheenan. Freepers like Hannity say Sheenan is more political than personal. I know better.

8. "Looking like just another pain in the ass protester"
Interesting. So you think they were right to forcibly remove her because of what she was wearing? I for one welcome the fact that Cindy is consistently showing the nation that a bunch of fascists are running the country. All people who are in the public eye become caricatures of themselves. I guess whether you believe she is a greiving parent trying to keep other parents from suffering the same fate as she did or whether she is a political hack hired by George Soros to keep attacking Bush depends on what media you pay attention to. Oh and Jesse Jackson? Might not have any credibility to you but I imagine the black community has a different opinion...

11. Read
TinAtlanta here:
http://www.progressiveu.org/201041-erosion-of-our-freedom-speech-part-2?from=70&comments_per_page=70

AND in kos- I don't have the link, But Cindy herself explained that she didn't even INTEND to go to the SOTU and didn't even think about making a protest by wearing that shirt. It just heppened. So to call it a stunt is not a very good word. It was an accident of circumstances. And having been a person who has had little unplanned things happen, I know that this is true.

Plus, I know the people who were with her and she had absolutely NO INTENTION of creating any ruckus at all. She went and didn't even think about the clothes on her back.

Please search the kos forum or truthout or bradblog and you'll find other people who were there who tell the same facts as I do.

2. no need to respond to garbage.
people who bash Cindy are not likely to respond well to anything anyone else has to say about her.

I find that exchange pointless, and I find threads like this unnecessary.

12. actually, I disagree with you. People have a 'last click" mentality
so to let that person's voice be the last click allows him to get away with false facts.

6. Done.
Not that it will do any good. Bush could rip off the head of someone like Society Dweller, shit in their lungs, and they would say, "Ain't he great!?"

9. What I hate most
are the comments by so-called "Democrats" (yeah, right) along the lines of "ooh, Cindy is hurting the Democratic party by associating with (insert name of left-wing figure here)". Well guess what, dimbulbs - CINDY ISN'T A MEMBER OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. And the good thing about being an independent, free-thinking individual (yes, it is possible, even in Bush's America) is that you don't have to follow any "party line" and you can associate with WHOEVER THE HELL YOU WANT and say WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT.

Cindy isn't a politician, so she doesn't have to play the stupid fucking mealy-mouthed games politicians have to play. To be frank, the fact that she's not a Democrat is what allows her to have, for want of a better term, a pair of balls. So it's not surprising that the warmongering scumbags - and their chattering little minions, disguised as democrats - are shit-scared of her.

13. people all have different ideas. we have to learn as a group
of progressives how to support each other to make our voice and actions heard. Espeically with the media brainwashing people...I was a former brainwashed media watcher myself and I didn't know it.

my nick should have been..."recovered media zombie"

10. Damn, where did Society Dweller go?
She/He hasn't responded to any of us. Must be the facts that are giving Society Dweller a little trouble. It works that way for those folks who have their heads up shrub's nether regions.
