If an accidental shooting happens at your home, are the police |
|
"ok" with the reporting of the "accident" being done at your (the homeowner) discretion? Do YOU get to decide when to call them, and/or when/whether to even report the incident, if the injured person "seems ok"..
Why didn't the first hospital, or the second report it?
I am assuming that quail hunting does not occur at night (isn't that for snipe? :P..)..So if the "accident" happened in daylight, and involved the vice-president, the response should have been immediate, and there should have been no delay (pardon the pun) in reporting the incident.
The "ranch-owner" should have had NO say in the timing of the release of information.
Failure to report an injury accident is in itself a crime, if it involves a car..Is a GUN any different?
If a person is brought to an ER with a gunshot wound, they are not allowed to leave, nor are the people with them, until the police have interviewed everyone.

3. Key word being "evening" |
|
If the accident happened at 4PM, the police should have been notified at 4:01 PM, right after calling 911.. You CAN call 911 and say.. "Someone's been accidentally shot..please send an ambulance and the police"..
This crew spent a few (or more) hours trying to treat their friend themselves and get their stories straight.

8. no, they had a helicopter for that. |
|
and in an emergency, yes, they would. could you imagine the PR nightmare if he died waiting for an ambulance because they wouldn't use Cheney's bus or helicopter?

11. Only ones required to report the incident, is the hospital. |
|
If me and a buddie are out hunting and he accidentally hits me with some pellets, theres nothing says it has to be reported, as long as i don't go for medical care.

But if all party's agree it's and accident, especially the victim. then it's nothing more than an incident report, end of story.

This should have been made public immediately after it happened.

6. My question is...this is a local jurisdiction issue isn't it? |
|
If it was an accidental shooting..
It wasn't an incident that required federal law enforcement intervention...isn't it local police that bear the responsibility to investigate the shooting..
It is also highly unusual for an investigation to close so quickly "it looks like less than 48 hours" don't you think?
So why the interference by the SS?
I am in agreement with you if this were to happen to an average Joe, I can guarantee that Joe would be sitting at his local police station answering hours of questions.
