STOP talking about Cheney!
This whole Cheney story may be fascinating, etc....but, let's stop making such a big fuss over it. It's taking our time away from the war, the economy, medicare, social security, human rights, the tax cuts, etc!

This issue won't matter to Red Staters...if anything, all it does is confirm to them that Cheney is a real man, a man who is just like them..a man who hunts! They love hunters!

And, some of them have probably been in the same situation - or, almost had an accident happen - so they can empathize. And, they will.

This is a good distraction...one that plays well for them and does nothing to help us.

31. I know I can. I'm enjoying the humor and irony and I'm still catching
the other news.

If we think we can just ignore this story and focus on serious issues, we are ignoring the way the media really works. This will be the focus until it peters out. We should use it to our advantage plus there are still some big questions. The story smells to high heaven.

Amazing isn't it? I am sick of people telling us to shut about Dead eye Dick and that it distracts from the real issues. This is a real issue, it goes to the lack of integrity and responsibility that the repugs love to play up.

"You're not the boss of me!" my kids would assert to one another.

Being very immature it is the first thing that popped into my mind.

If I had a heart to give, I'd give one just for that.

Now myself on the other hand, I really am the boss.

we're being any less vigilent to tall the other things because of this.

Talking about it is fine. It's a big story, and a fun one. Not a type we get here often. But I would highly doubt any DU'er woke up today forgetting about all the other wrongs in the world with only room in their head for Elmer Cheney.

Don't sweat it. We can multi task and even take a temporary time out here and there. Won't cause any harm.

And On Edit: With this thread, now we're not talking about the main issues, we're not talking about the fun not so main issues, but instead we're only debating the question of what threads should be started based on substance, which would be even more a waste of our time no?

12. Whittington is still in Intensive Care ...
If you had medical training you'd realize that his condition is still dicey.

No, keep the pressure up. He's got a chest tube inserted and can take a turn for the worse at any time.

People do NOT languish in the ICU for NO REASON. Whittington's condition is still touch and go. Don't let any political or hospital administrative "talking head" tell you different.

Nope, this is NOT a distration, this is THE STORY that will win the Democrats back the Congress this November.

26. if it was cut and dry there would be no conversation about it
but an old geezer got shot by our veep while standing BEHIND him, and the whitehouse was trying to cover it up just in case he died.

It is of interest; not overriding, but interesting. How often does a veep get to be accused of manslaughter? It almost happened this weekend.

That having been said, we all are very very good at multitasking.

36. Am totally aghast that no one
is remarking on the techological rifle advance of the year. Cheney's gun had to be backwards, the stock was facing the other way. Tis, the only way that somebody who was BEHIND the trigger-happy VP could get shot in the FACE. Unless there was even more new technology on that gun than we know. Must be why the SS wouldn't let the VPster be interviewed by law enforcement like any other "material witness". :freak:

This topic is like found money with the Vpster shooting someone. First time that's happened since VP Aaron Burr bumped off Hamilton.

15. After 5 + years in bizarro world
I have seen small stuff get more play than big stuff. Even in the reality-based world, people often get convicted not for the big crime, but for lying about it or not declaring illegal income or stolen money on their taxes. eg. Plenty of people are convicted of resisting arrest even when the original charge doesn't hold.

let those that suck up to the right pretend it was an accident but anyone that handles a gun is solely responsible for where the shot goes. If Cheney had come out and said he was sorry for his error I could respect that but the right is wholly unable to admit they erred in anyway.

21. I think you may be missing the point that Cheney's luxurious hunt
weekend at a posh ranch with multi-millionaire fellow-Republicans stands in sharp contrast to the experience of those red (and blue) state hunters.

I'm talking about all those regular folks who've lost their pensions and had their health-coverage slashed, and who have to pay $100 to gas up their trucks on the way to their hunt.

22. Hunters respect hunting laws
They take responsible hunting very seriously. The guy was in critical condition, life threatening condition. You don't get flown to a trauma center, spend days in ICU, if its not critical. Believe me, if this had happened to any Democrat, there would be unified outrage from these same red state hunters and they'd be demanding a full investigation and prosecution to the full extent of the law. And every hunter in this country would be under the same investigation if they'd done this, it was a negligent shooting, pure and simple.

24. I beg to differ
....Hunters are a tight group and they find this shooting the act of an IDIOT.....there are very few accidents of this type.....real men don't shot their hunting partners.....Cheney was not following protocol ( sound familiar)...I have read way too many blocs today about this and many hunters have added to the discussion and they are finding many problems with the "story' and many have been appalled that the accident was blamed on the victim.....the shooter IS ALWAYS at fault. You learn a lot about another man when you play golf with them, gamble with them and shoot guns with them. Just maybe this incident could be a window into the man that calls himself :Dick(less)Cheney.

Far more heartland people are aghast of Cheney's behavior. This really should not EVER happen. Remember, even the wingnuts have children. The first rule of order is teach GUN SAFETY.

No, this may shake them out of their spell that ole' Cheney really cares about the average 'Merican.

For those of us who do hunt, only drunk scum-bags shoot their fellow hunters. Why? They bring their kids along. Hell no, they want everyone to be on-board with regard to "SAFETY" while out in the field, i.e., most times you can not follow by car.

in a LOONNNNNNGGGGG time... if you count the Dick as human, that is.

This little story is really BLOWING up in Cheney's face... and I'll bet the Chimp is pissed off at him, too. This is great... the media have locked their jaws on this one like pitbulls. The biggest scandals are always over the most simple (easy to understand) and sensational events... if Clinton could get impeached over a blowj*b, just imagine what could happen to Dick for shooting someone full of holes! And, it appears the Secret Service did not allow the Dick to be interviewed by the police in the aftermath... which will lead to more media speculation than ever... what WAS he hiding??? tee hee!

I am really enjoying this... one of my threads on the topic: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=404934&mesg_id=404934

52. Can we talk?
Who do you think has the most power?

Let me quote from the "Book on Bush" by Eric Alterman & Mark Green
pg.5

"Third and perhaps most costly, following September 11,2001, President Bush fell under the sway of a group of neoconservative ideologues placed in his administration by Dick Cheney and focused primarily in the Pentagon and vice president's office. These ideologues viewed the attacks less as a national tragedy than a strategic opportunity to implement a program of unilateral global empire for the United States, beginning with a "preventive" war against Iraq. Because Bush and his advisors were willing to deceive Congress and the nation about both the level of threat Iraq presented, as well as its (all-but-nonexistent) connections to the true perpetrators of the terrorist attack on New York and Washington, they succeeded in perpertrating a war against the wishes of the population of virtually every nation on the earth. Meanwhile, candidate Bush's promise of a foreign policy that would be "humble in how we treat nations that are figuring out how to chart their own course" was consigned to the dustbin of history."

More will be revealed about this incident/accident. A man was shot in the face by this V.P.

He should be held accountable like any citizen of this country. All of the issues you mentioned have to be changed by legislature.

This does not.

57. uuummmmmm.....let's see....NO!
It doesn't confirm Cheney is a "real man." It confirms that Cheney is a lying, sneaky, pampered asshole. There are WAY too many unanswered questions about this shooting, and I, for one, want to hear some answers. And no, I will not shut up about it.

59. STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO POST
How about you post the stories YOU'RE interested in, and allow everyone else to do the same. You're not going to convince any of us that Cheney's not hurt by the fact that HE SHOT A GUY IN THE FACE AND THEN TRIED TO COVER IT UP.

76. I did an advanced search on that poster. Apparently,
the ONLY threads she's posted on are Cheney threads. No threads about these other issues she seems to care about.

Weird, huh?

61. I think it can help us if we think about this a bit.
All this media about Cheney and 'friendly fire'.
My response: Wouldn't it be something if the media got this frenzied over every one of our troops who was wounded or killed by friendly fire...?

62. Real hunters know this guy is a wannable hunter, not a real one.
Real hunters disdain this sort of crap and lack of proper safety precautions, like actually looking at what you're shooting before you shoot.

It's a faux "manhood" as much as everything else is that is false about this Administration. They can't be honest about anything: they hide, coverup and lie. It's emblematic of this Administration. That's the real story here, in case you haven't noticed. The VP shoots someone, the Administration knows and doesn't mention it until after a local paper calls and asks for a comment the next day and the story hits the wires.

And last I looked, there are other threads in this forum about other issues. No one here is forgetting Plame, Iraq, Iran, warrantless surveillance, etc. Multitasking is not that difficult.

Getting other people to bow to your will and commands as to what they should not discuss here, however, will be.

63. Everyone is just letting off some steam--
well deserved, I might add. We've all been embroiled in the atrocity that is Alito, the betrayal of some Dems regarding that situation (dinos), the backlash of the Coretta Scott King funeral, in addition to the other situations mentioned in your post.

Things like this don't come along often, but when they do it's fun to take some time out from the insanity we all deal with day to day to poke some fun.

As some others have mentioned above, we can also focus on other issues simultaneously.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

64. No!
There's too many unanswered questions and it's not a nothing story and it's not taking anything away from the war, economy, ect--if we're in front of a computer and posting about the war, ect--what are we really accomplishing? we should be out there doing something.

Now that the victim has birdshot in his heart and has suffered a heart attack, is that important enough for consideration? Or is it still a distraction?

You think hunters are empathizing? You're dreaming, if you do. Here's from the heart of Darth's base:

"Responsibility yours, Cheney; stand up and take it"

How foolish I've been to hammer away at a hard-core, right-wing asshole whose shore-story doesn't wash. And, silly me, it's for certain that right wingers would show mercy on us, like they did when Clinton lied about his BJ! Whew, what a load that is off my mind! :sarcasm:

90. seriously--our government is ordering people tortured and murdered right
now--let's get back on track.

It's been fun, and it will be interesting to see what (if anything) becomes of our mighty quail hunter VP, but the world is in pain right now, and our country is the cause, and we need to get back to more important matters.

It finally shows how this administration covers up everything. if this is what it will take to resonate with Americans, I say full speed ahead.

93. I actually agree to a point
If this becomes a criminal matter, which would require the death of Mr. Whittington, then I say we should refocus on the issue.

Otherwise, let's relegate this issue to gun control debates and put the focus back on the major issues.
