AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION Tells Bush STOP Spying Without Warrant
Lawyers group slams Bush on eavesdropping
Mon Feb 13, 2006 5:06 PM ET

By Michael Conlon

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The American Bar Association told President George W. Bush on Monday to either stop domestic eavesdropping without a warrant or get the law changed to make it legal.

"We hope the President will listen," association president Michael Grecco told reporters after the more than 500 members of its policy-setting body passed a resolution saying that both national security and constitutional freedoms needed to be protected.

"We do not say surveillance should be stopped, only that it comply with the law," said Neal Sonnett, a Miami lawyer who headed the task force formed to look at the issue not long after the spying program came to light in December.

Authorized by Bush in 2001, the program allows the National Security Agency to monitor the international phone calls and e-mails of U.S. citizens to track people with ties to al Qaeda and other militant groups.

2. They're Going To Change The Law
In the end, the mis-administration is just going to get the repub congress to pass some bill that allows them to continue doing this, and then they'll just blow off the fact they did it "illegally" for the past few years. They want to get past this and onto screwing up new and better things.

3. And They'll "Define" The Law For Themselves!
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 07:28 PM by butlerd
The administration's "signing statement" will, of course, clear any roadblocks to....well....doing whatever it is doing right now and Bushco can claim to the public/media that THEY are the ones fighting for the civil rights and liberties of the American people and that they can hold themselves accountable and the MSM will just drop the subject and move on. It won't matter, of course, that nothing will actually change and that the only reason that Bushco/GOP MIGHT do something about this surveillance "program" NOW is because they know that they got caught "red-handed" doing something they knew they weren't supposed to. After all, it's the thought that counts! ;) Is there any way that Congress can prohibit these so-called "signing statements (not that they would as long as a Republican is in office)?" Where are they written into the law, anyway?

4. How dare they ...
Instead, they should be realistic and change the title of President to Emperor as it should be.

Our Emperor can do ANYTHING he wants to, anywhere he wants to, anytime he wants to, and to anyone he chooses, and that's that.

Look, his Grand Vizier can shoot anyone he wants to, just to prove a point. The Ballad of Dead-eye Dick will be historical in the annals of Fascist history.

Ol' Dead-eye Dick was a shootin' at some birds
He turned and popped a lawyer and no one said a word.
He knew he had to do it, just to prove he could,
When you have all the power, your evil becomes good!

PNAC, Haliburton, Black Ops!

Ya'll go to Gitmo now, y'hear?

,...unconstitutional,...and his cabal KNOW IT.

Why isn't the freakin' ABA bringing lawsuits? This is just INSANE!!!

Moreover, why the FUCK would the ABA ENCOURAGE creation of unconstitutional law-making.

I swear to God,...this country has lost its collective mind. :eyes:

Shit.
