Wouldn't it be safer to hunt quail with a little butterfly net? |

What the hell do you need a gun for? Where is the sport in killing a little bird like that with a gun?

1. There is no sport in this situation |
|
The birds were raised and released on private land. It's not like they had to go out, walk around for hours and actually "hunt" these birds down!
I come from a hunting family. I can totally understand wanting to keep hunting going... and I fully expect to be hunting to feed myself someday... but that's a whole nuther Oprah. This was not hunting. This is not sport. Yes, in this case, a butterfly net would have probably done the job. These guys just want to kill something.
I guess all those innocent Iraqi men, women and children just weren't enough for Cheney.

2. if a bunch of people just expect to kill dozens and dozens of birds ... |

... in a matter of hours ... there is definitely something out of whack. Even during the legendary times a couple of hundred years ago, quail etc. didn't occur at that kind of density. Maybe if hunters plopped themselves down next to a major migration route for waterfowl and blasted away -- but these days hunters try to save some birds for breeding, and for the next batch of people down the way!
The hunters I know don't bring home a bag that big, BUT they savor every mouthful of their prey. And they're appalled by "canned hunts" where people think it's okay to slaughter truckloads of birds just because they or their friends have paid to raise and fatten them!
Is Cheney attempting to provide game for White House state dinners? One would think that he has other duties!
