I LOVE to Hunt but Cheney is a killer, not a hunter
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 08:00 PM by DenaliDemocrat
I LOVE to hunt. Every aspect of hunting. I love planning the hunt, reading the maps, and getting my gear ready. I love camping out on a gravel bar and hearing the wolves at night or having a grizzly come into camp. I love pumping my drinking water from a stream, cooking over a campfire, getting up at dawn, and sleeping in fridig temperatures. I love hiking miles in pristing wilderness. I love stalking an animal, and hopefully harvesting it. I love packing moose quarter that weight 100 lbs each on my back into camp. I love butchering my meat myself. I love cooking it and eating it. I love sharing the experiences and the food with my friends and family.

I make no appologies for this. The bottom line is if you eat meat, something must die. Somehow, it seems to me that I what I do is far more personal that picking up a piece of processed beef from Safeway...but to each their own. Still, I think that maybe we have become sterile to the fact that when you eat meat, an animal gave its life for you to be able to do it. It matters not if it is stupid Mc Donald's hamburger or a venison stew.

However, make no mistake. Cheney is no hunter. He is a killer. Anyone who would shoot 70 pen raised pheasants in one day is someone who just loves to see the boddies flop. There are people like that out there, but I do not consider them hunter. He is sick.

I didn't go into as much hunter detail as you did, but I can totally relate.

2. I read that article too.
After shooting 70 pheasants in the morning he went out and shot pen raised mallards
in the PM.

And yes, some people will not understand hunting. I have a remington 20 gauge pump
w/ a slug barrel. I hunt deer and & some small game. Dick's blood lust is no more hunting
then me passing a football w/ my 11 year old son has to do w/ the super bowl outcome.

BTW his story just does not pass the smell test. You never swing 180 degrees to shot
behind you.

5. I don't understand hunting and never will. I don't understand how
you could look anything in the eye and then kill it, but I do appreciate the fact that others do like it, and I especially appreciate the fact that you do the really hard part of hunting and not just kill something and leave it there, or kill animals that have been raised just for the canned hunt. I always said if I had to kill the animal to eat the meat I would become a veggan in a nanosecond, but I appreciate the people who do the hard work for me. And you're right about Cheney; he is just a killer.

6. I don't understand it either, especially LOVING it
sorry, but if anyone tells me that they LOVE killing-which is what hunting is-I head the other way. Fast.

10. Do you eat meat?
If so, do you know the torcher those animals go through before you pick that steak out at the meat department...most are kept in tiny cages, unable to move, in their own feces and urine...until it's time to die. I much rather would have the meat of an animal that has lived a happy life....and in return helps me feed my family. Circle of life, my friend.

7. Hunting discussions
I've been in a lot of discussions regarding hunting and know quite a few hunters. I won't do it myself - because would not regard as fun but I respect other's viewpoints on the subject.
I agree about the body flopping thing. I mean, to me, that is just sicko. Like very ewwwww....turn off, disgusting, etc...

I mean - why doesn't he go drink his brandy in a slaughter house? Wouldn't that be the same thing? He could wield the knife.. Or would that be too risky for the coward?

8. I agree with you this far:
I love camping out on a gravel bar and hearing the wolves at night or having a grizzly come into camp. I love pumping my drinking water from a stream, cooking over a campfire, getting up at dawn, and sleeping in fridig temperatures. I love hiking miles in pristing wilderness.

I'm not going to judge you, because I know you believe in what you do and you have a code of honor in doing it. I respect that. But I really enjoy just watching the wildlife when I'm camping. Many of the critters get to know you if you are able to spend some time in one place, and figure out that you aren't going to harm them. They don't mind showing themselves then.

11. Very well said
Its sad that an animal has to die in order for us to have meat, but thats one of the facts of life. I have no problem at all with someone who happens to enjoy hunting.

Cheney is no hunter, hes a cold blooded killer. I wonder what they do with the carcasses of the animals he shoots, I'm sure they dont eat them or put them to any use. What a sick bastard.

12. Denali, I no longer hunt for physical reasons.
I can't manage the intense athletics it takes to get my moose each year, but I can tell you that I miss the entire experience. It's not quite the same to stay in camp (I refuse to "road hunt") and make coffee for the more physically fit of my hunting friends.

I agree with you wholeheartedly - Anyone who shoots "game" caged for that purpose is no hunter, nor is he/she a sportsman. I know many of this type who are members of so-called conservation organizations including Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club (how DO you cook hippopotamus, again?) and even Ruffed Grouse. They're in it for the thrill kill, not the connection with the land and its bounty.

15. Cheney is a phoney hunter - Bush is a phoney fighter pilot
Cheney gets his macho kicks by pretending to be the Great White ("Canned") Hunter and Bush by being Top Gun. Both play dress-up, Cheney in an Elmer Fudd suit and Bush in a flightsuit.
