Going out on a limb here. |
|
Here's a prediction:
Bush will be impeached. Soon. By his own party.
If I am wrong, I'll own it. But the signs are there.

Impeachment of a Repub President, even if done by repubs, leaves an incredibly bad tone towards republicans with 06 elections right around the corner.
No way they do that. No way.

But I think they'll do it - an insurgency by the moderates who will be joined by others who merely want to distance themselves from GW.

19. A Couple Of Defectors Maybe. I Think That Could Be Possible. |
|
But you said by his own party, which led me to believe you meant the majority of THEM would start the initiative, which I consider highly improbably. If you meant that it will be led by the Dems but able to go through due to the defection of a few moderate repubs, well that under the right circumstances is in fact possible.

20. In the end, the GOP will do it |
|
I think the Republicans have a huge incentive to get rid of the Bush/Cheney fiasco going into November. Ousting a rogue president from their own party would allow them to run as the "statesmanlike" party. It'll only take a couple more revelations for them to reach that tipping point, IMHO.
But if the Dems lead it and win over enough GOPers to get it done, that'll be fine by me.

signs are there. Remember when William Randolph Hearst III (1970's RW) wrote an editorial saying Nixon should resign? Nixon resigned about a month later.
Oddly, the RW take on Nixon was he had to go, not because he'd committed crimes, but because the Democratic Congress had him so hamstrung, he didn't "have his finger on the nuclear button" anymore.
Politics makes STRANGE bedfellows.

8. It will be a Potemkin impeachment, before the 2006 elections, if |
|
it happens at all. I don't think they have enough time to pull it off. They can't do it now with Cheney as synonomous with hunting accident as Monica was with fellatio. So there'd have to be a new V-P first and that would certainly be "extraordinary circumstances" under anyone's definition.

12. When he starts the war on Iran, that will do it . . . |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 10:13 PM by patrice
There'll be somekind of missile exchange in which either Iran or Iraq will be either the target or the aggressor. Something "out of our hands" but that would, once it transpires, require that "we" US/Iraq take measures with Iran.

We can only hope the RW's will get scared enough (1) to replace Cheney for "health-related reasons," then (2) do the Coup d'Etat thing.
Who d'ya think will be the new appointed King? Frist? Lindsay Graham?

16. He will be removed one way or the other, IMHO. |

It has to be his own party that does it because, let's face it, we the people no longer have any power.

the Repub party core voters love Bush! He's the most conservative president in decades.
It would be political suicide for House and Senate members in the primaries to dump Bush.
