One of U.S. Sen. Conrad Burns' Democratic opponents has pulled ahead of him, and the other is running dead even, according to the latest Rasmussen Research poll released Monday.
The survey of 500 likely voters showed that 50 percent of those polled preferred state Auditor John Morrison, to the 43 percent who chose Burns. Burns' other main Democratic opponent, state Senate President Jon Tester, was tied with the Republican senator, 46-46 percent.
The results were titled "Burns in Trouble" by Rasmussen, which attributed the poll numbers to publicity about Burns' ties to Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who pleaded guilty last month in a congressional influence-peddling scandal.
Burns accepted more in donations from Abramoff and his associates, about $150,000, than any other member of Congress. He is attempting to return the money.
