Poll question: Why Is The Media Ape Shit Over The Delay In Reporting Quailgate? |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 09:25 AM by Plaid Adder
I'll tell you what surprises me most about this whole incident. All of a sudden, you have reporters getting VERY ANGRY and demanding ANSWERS! from Scotty etc. about why the shooting was not reported earlier. I cannot help wondering why it's only NOW that they are starting to figure out they're being played. What do you think is the reason that these reporters are so pissed off that nobody led them to the trough?

6. And the reporter who got the call at that small paper is very telegenic |
|
Wish I wasn't so senile that I forgot her name. Can somebody help me out? KO has her on last night.

:-). But I saw her interviewed on PBS. She is friends with the ranch owner! How convenient.

14. On KO, she said another reporter at paper had 'very close relationship' |
|
with the ranch owner. And the paper had a long and good relationship with the family.
Ah, perks of the rich and famous.

17. She came across very well on camera, didn't she? |
|
Maybe she'll make the leap to television, although she probably does more hard news where she is - and she's the Health and Fitness reporter, isn't she? I believe that's what she said. The M$M have got to be completely warped out of shape over that tidbit. Scooped on a major story by a small town Health and Fitness reporter!

19. On the PBS report, she looked smug as if she knew more but |
|
wasn't going to tell anyone. She drove in from Austin to get to the paper to write the story, so she said. What, no laptops there?

18. That's exactly right. |
|
The WH press corps was already pissed because Elmer Fudd doesn't feed them information about excursions like this one. See, they could have been peddling information like that. And now that this big scoop was handed to the Corpus Christi Caller-News, some in the WH press corps have taken a break from their normal stenography duties to rise from their normal bended-knee positions. Don't worry, it won't last long.

3. I've been wondering the same thing. What the heck does it take to get |
|
the MSM off their duffs?? This really is a "nothing" story compared to all the other stuff they haven't even bothered to ask about. Why does this all of a sudden get the journalistic juices flowing? I really do think it's because it's an easy story, no thought needed at all, and it's about gun violence, the only thing they really "get".

4. I think part of it stems from the ridiculous notion |
|
Put forth by Cheney's office that there is no responsibility to inform the media when the VP shoots an old man in the face.

10. Because it showed intent to cover up the story especially if the man |
|
had died. We deserve to know this right away. VP is second in chain of command, if he is facing possible manslaughter charges than that is fucking news. The delay was to ensure that the man would live... If not than this story would still not be out.

11. Because the sitting VP of the USA shot an elderly man IN THE FACE |
|
Many people - and media - feel (wrongly) that all Presidents lie, and all Administrations engage in secret deals and cover-ups. Because of this, "They all do it" attitude, they give ChimpCo a pass. One thing, however, that does NOT happen often is the sitting VP of the United States shooting an elderly man in the face with a shotgun. And even though there is NO way to spin this, they are doing exactly that. Spinning. Lying. Delaying.
If Deadeye Dick had come out immediately, accepted responsibility and said, "I'm putting down my guns; no more hunting for me" not only would we have been shocked, this thing could have been defused.
Since they are pathological liars, however, this never occurred to them, and they reverted to what is ingrained - THE LYING and THE COVERING UP. Many "red-state" BushBots are hunters and outdoorsman; more than a few I have spoken with are INSULTED with what BushCo is trying to spin.

13. Are they being played, or part of the script? |
|
What you described -- a suddenly inquisitive media machine -- is curious for a number of reasons. Surely this hunting incident was not the most agregious "crime" to come out of the White House in recent months. But it is the first one anyone seems to be interested in pressing BushCo about. Why?
It sure has helped keep FEMA and the Iraq beatings off the front page, and several more tidbits which missed the Friday dump. Why aren't those "angry" reporters asking about the FEMA report, even as just a follow-up question? Major, major news out yesterday, and the ENTIRE press conference was about Fuddgate. Hmmmmmmmm.
Who is playing whom?

15. They are pissed because they were dissed |
|
and passed over for the "local media".
The National press core thought it was the administration's #1 whore. Turns out the Admin is two-timing them with a two bit paper out of Corpus Christi.
Hell hath no fury like a press core scorned.

21. Hopefully the press smells blood in the water.... |
|
as in coverup ? Will this make them wonder what else the WH is hiding?
This is why it's so newsworthy! Had Cheney's people released a public statement immediately after the incident, I don't think it would have grown the legs it has now?
Why did the ranch owner call a local paper the day after? Doesn't sound like WH protocol to me  I don't buy protecting the victim's privacy either, the press would have respected that and/or stayed away from the hospital, until Mr. Whittington's condition was known/family notified, etc.

22. Maybe they're tired of being lied to and manipulated |
|
That's my guess. They've been a lap-dog for this mis-administration and the right-wing for quite some time now. Perhaps they learned that no matter how hard you try to be "Faux-Light", or appease the right-wing, they are still going to call you the "Looney Left Liberal Media".
It's like something profound that my dad said once. He said; "Son, you can have the best trained dog in the world, but if you hit him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper everyday, he's eventually going to bite you".
Who knew he was talking about the current news media.

Remember Bill Clinton? The Republicans send countless hours and dollars trying to taint him with scandal. They tried to make him look like a crook with Whitewater, they tried to make him look like a traitor with Chinagate. But non of those things had much traction in the media, and caused most voters' eyes to gloss over. .
But a blow job? Yeow, that was the motherload, and the media covered that one 24/7.
The media has a simple rule: If it bleeds (or spurts) it leads.
