DEMS UNVEIL '08 MESSAGE: 'YOU'RE FAT!'
Tue Feb 14 2006 08:28:55 ET

**Exclusive**

THE DRUDGE REPORT has obtained an email sent Monday evening by Democratic National Committee (DNC) research director Devorah Adler that contains ten opposition research packets on potential 2008 GOP presidential contenders.

In one packet titled “Newt Gingrich: 08 Watch February 2006” a picture of the former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA) appears with --- him holding two full plates of food!

The quote underneath the Gingrich photo reads “In His Own Words: Gingrich’s Solution To Childhood Obesity: ‘Turn off the TV, cut the fatty diet and get exercise.’

The ten Republicans picked by the Democrat Party include: Sen. George Allen (R-VA), Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN), Gingrich, Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY), Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Gov. George Pataki (R-NY) and Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA).

One Republican strategist who had seen the opposition research packets said: 'We should expect nothing less than name-calling and referring to one’s political opponents as ‘fat’ from Howard Dean’s Democrat Party.'

7. It's just me, but if I was going to prepare strategy docs, I would
have sent them US mail and only to the most loyal recipients.

14. "Democrat Party" "Democrat Party" "Democrat Party"
Given the recent events of the Party's Leadership initiative, let's just all do something simple today. Write a note to every Democratic Congressman (federal and state) with the message: "Pledge: I will donate $100 each time I hear elected Democratic officials quip, 'it's DEMOCRATIC PARTY'."

That will get some action. LOL!

15. Wait a minute. How did Drudge get hold of an internal DNC memo
Remember back in 2004 when the republicans got into the computers and private memos of Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee?? The confidential info got leaked to Novak.

Democratic staffers wrote and transmitted confidential memoranda describing the means they would use to block such nominations in general, and the nomination of conservative Republican Miguel Estrada in particular. A year ago, in February 2003, columnist Robert Novak -- the same columnist responsible for revealing the name of a CIA operative on a leak from government officials -- published information from these Democratic strategy memos. Novak reported that the information came from "internal Senate sources" but refused to identify these sources when questioned by Boston Globe reporter Charlie Savage.

It now appears that the memos were stored on a computer server that also served the Judiciary Committee. When the Republicans regained control of the Senate, they regained control of the Judiciary Committee as well. Eager young staffers apparently discovered that access to the Democratic strategy memos was not password-protected, and was located on the shared server, where they could access it by clicking on the "My Network Places" icon on their own desktops.

There is some dispute over what happened next -- though in my opinion it makes no difference. The Republicans argued that a computer technician told the Democrats about the configuration problem in the summer of 2002, and the Democrats claim they knew nothing about it until November of 2003. In either event, it's clear that Republican staffers, learning of the lack of protection to the documents, used the opportunity to take, read and leak the contents of the memos.

18. good point. what we don't know is who the email recipients are
if it went to a giant pool of people it would just take one person who was not a 100% committed democrat to forward the email to anyone else. Call me over-cautious, but I would have used usmail.

Hmm, maybe the email had "keywords" in it that the NSA picked up on while performing their illegal and unconstitutional data sweep !
