I'm a Beer drinker and a Bricklayer
I have been since I was 8 years old. I've laid red brick, white brick and even large cinder block

Sometimes I'll cut a brick, sometimes I don't, and sometimes I choose not to.

But, one thing I have always had on the job site is beer. Beer is just damn enjoyable.

I know of dozens of DUers who feel the same way about beer as I do, and they are just as passionate about bricklaying and the pursuit a plumb wall. Beer is a tradition that spans political groups, so I feel it's in our best interests not to alienate that core group of people.

1. Let's hear it for beer!
Beer! Beer! Beer!

To quote one of our Founding Fathers, "Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." (Ben Franklin)

6. Guess so...
I tend to skip the joke posts, unless I'm in the lounge.

Thanks. :)

3. St. Briget of Ireland, an ale brewer, is
reported to have said that she'd like to brew a great lake of ale for Jesus and the Apostles.

8. Kinda had to change my ways but I have finished many a floors
thousands of yards of concrete and beer never got in my way. In fact I always thought I could do a better job with a beer on my sliders with me.

10. You'd never work for me or anybody I know
Not having alcohol on the job is real similar to not having alcohol on the hunt and for the same reeasons--youre working with dangerous equipment and only a fool wants to work with dangerous eqquipment when impaired. Like hunting, its often the innocent bystanders who get hurt, through stupidity.
As a licensed general contractor since 1981 whose built dozens of houses I can say categorically that anybody who alllows alcohol or drugs on a job--ANY job-- is nothing but a dam fool.
I don't pay people to get shitfaced or even mellow, I pay them to do journeyman work and anybody who drinks on the job has no notion of what journeyman work is IN ANY FIELD!!
I gues you can get away with it because bricklaying is essentially a dumbhead job with no power tools (although I know bricklayers who would differ with that)
In was a carpenter before getting my contractors license, and Ive seince learned the elctrica,l trade. Neither one of these would support an alcohol on the job atmosphere.
I make it very clear to the people who work for me: ANY hint of alcohol or drugs on the job and you are SO GONE!! No 2d warnings and no 2d chances.
In over 24 years Ive never had an accident on any job I was in charge of and I want to keep my perfect record.
