I'm legit confused (re:Hackett/Brown/Ohio) |
|
Progressive liberals are willing to support an candidate who's not really a progressive liberal on the issues, but liberally says Bush sucks. And in the meantime, the progressive liberal in the race is a tool for the centrists of the DLC who are really not centrists, but GOP-lite.
And in the same vain, a progressive liberal can't win, but a guy who's going to "broaden our base" is, even when still others, mostly liberals mind you, tell us that we can't run to the middle because if people have a choice between a real Republican and Republican-lite, they'll vote for the real Republican anyway.
And regardless of being in or out, why can't Hackett just run against Mean Jean again? It's not like she's gotten any better and learned her lesson about not being an idiot. Does it even matter because the machines are rigged anyway?

1. Here's what got me upset |
|
The fact that Reid and Schumer decided that Hackett shouldn't run really rankles me. The Democrats in Ohio are the ones who decide this, not party bigwigs. If Hackett's popularity is waning, as is purported in a DLC poll, then it would become obvious during the primary campaign, and Hackett could decide for himself whether to continue or not.
The reason that Hackett won't run in the 2nd district is because he pledged he wouldn't to local Dems who wanted to run for the seat. To my mind, this shows honor and respect for his fellow Dems.

8. That is what pisses me off too |

Let hackett and brown fight it out, and whoever emerges is the one who should represenate Ohio
I have lost all faith in our so-called democratic leaders. In fact, we are where we are today because of them
We are the party who can't speak truth to power without appologizing, and for rubber stamping most everything this administration sends over because of FEAR that it might NOT look good
I am tired of all the crap

2. Hackett promised not to run in that CD. |
|
He seems to feel his word is worth something. How odd.

9. Well, that part bothers me..... |
|
Who are these people he promised not to run again? Do they have a shot of winning a race against Schmidt, or just another group of non-descript Dems who look nice in a suit, run a timid campaign and be beaten 52% to 48%? Sounds to me like they are professional politicians who didn't like the idea of trying to win a mid-term special election and said "Yeah, newbie, go take a shot at it. <snicker>".

5. handled poorly on all sides. |
|
Rahm Emanuel was right to try and recruit Hackett for Congress. It's where Hackett belongs. But Schumer handled things with Hackett's donors very badly. And Hackett acted like a baby yesterday.
No angels here.

What do you think Brown plans to do in the Senate that he hasn't done in 12 years in the House?

A bunch of internet activists who mostly do not live in Ohio got emotionally attached to a candidate who was willing to feed red meat to the base. Thus, kerfuffle. (Note: If you live in Ohio, this doesn't apply to you, obviously.)

10. What everybody does not understand is Brown is NOT going |
|
to run against Devine.
Devine has too much baggage and IMHO, will not run for election to "spend more time with his family" and the Repugs Leaders will bring in a Ringer maybe in the form of a Movie Star or Football player to run for Devines seat.
Just IMHO and prediction .
