2. no, actually
if those are most in demand, then that means that we have a weak workforce in those areas.

7. No, it means the compensation doesn't attract workers.
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 12:04 PM by TahitiNut
Where did the ol' "supply vs. demand" free market thinking go? After all, when the demand exceeds the supply, isn't the price supposed to rise? (No. We just import lower price labor from Mexico.)

Is it any wonder that workers aren't clamoring to be a Home Health Aide for $19,200/year?

3. Plenty of jobs out there!
Sure sure...as the wool is pulled further and further over our eyes...

From an economic standpoint though, who is going to buy all the goods and services when everyone out there has virtually zero salary coming in and no benefits? It will likely crash in on itself I surmise.

Looks to me like the US economy will crater.

so the rich people can shoot each other in the face when they get drunk

it all makes perfect sense according to gawdjeezis' plan.

was one of the haves or have-mores, and certainly has access to the best medical care money can buy.

12. Right--
for example:

Landscaping and Groundskeeping Worker
What it pays: $22,260

Not around here it doesn't-- more like $60 per day and the work is VERY seasonal. Also, hurt your back? Too bad: there are no benefits and you're paid ONLY if you work.

say it high.. The biggest reason I posted this was because of the jobs themselves.. Waitress, janitor, food preparation.. If these are the "top jobs" in this country we are in real trouble.

18. I've noticed often in articles like this, salary/wage figures
are way up above what I see in real life. I think if they are real figures, they get them from D.C. or New York City or somewhere where the cost of living is way up there.

8. There is some good news about "Customer Service Rep".
I've had that job three times so far (at the age of 27). The good news is that if enough people take that job, soon there will be a greater demand for psichiatrists and stress therapists. So be on the lookout for those new employment oppertunities.

11. So then I guess if you want a job
you have to be willing to relocate to India.

Seriously, not too long ago I saw a job ad in the paper. No kidding, it said this: "Must be willing to relocate to Bangalore, India."

Welcome, no wait - NOT welcome - to America.

20. But how will a customer service rep pay for the treatment? The
cheapest counselors, not psychiatrists, counselors and therapists run from $80 - $100 an hour.

Retail commodity logistics technician.

Notice that these are all "hands-on" type jobs. BushCo would send these jobs offshore like they have all the other meaningful jobs if they could only find a way.

Otherwise, smile, be happy, and enjoy the "free market" while bagging those groceries or washing the bedpans.

What's going to happen in a few more years, when resentment has built up to the boiling point?

25. This is just so damn depressing
I've taken a look at these sorts of lists from time to time since I was a kid. When I was younger it seemed like a lot more of the jobs listed needed some sort of college degree. Be it for a doctor, lawyer, teacher what have. And these were well paying jobs, even the two or three that didn't require a college degree.

Looking at this list I'm struck by how well over half of these jobs, nineteen in fact, don't require any post high school education at all. And again, over half of these jobs are what I, or any job counselor, would classify as "entry level positions". My God, this is what our work force is coming to now, burger flippers serving janitors cleaning up after salesmen:eyes: And the wages, my God, the wages are very low and going down fast. Damn, we're in bad shape. Our economy now runs primarily off of consumer demand, and if people are getting paid entry level wages, how are they going to fuel our economy?

Just one more indication that our country, and our economy is going to crash and burn in the relatively near future. You are being warned people, take heed and be prepared.
