CNN just said "lead pellet".
A minor point, I guess, but I believe pellets are steel now and have been for some years.
EPA outlawed lead pellets due to environmental concerns.
Any hunters know for sure?

3. Heard that too.
Not sure about the law in Texas.

Also heard that "Hunter Education" is required by law in Texas, and since the Hunter Education program, accidents have been greatly reduced.
Anyone want to guess whether the arrogant Cheney participated in a Texas Hunter Education Program?

Are these guys above the law?

12. You're grandfathered in if you're over a certain
age for hunter education classes. I had to go years ago for education in my state, but there is a cutoff age.

5. No...you only have to use steel if you are shooting
over water, ie goose or duck hunting. 7 1/2 bird shot is lead.

10. Lead pellets are still legal for upland game but verboten for waterfowl.
That's a federal standard related to migratory gamebird rules. Some states may also have outlawed lead shot for upland birds--I don't know. In Wisconsin lead shot is legal for pheasant, grouse, rabbits, etc.

Waterfowl are reputed to mistake the lead shot lying on the bottom of ponds for seeds and eat the shot, thereby giving themselves lead poisoning.

11. With quail it would have been lead
the steel is needed for the water system. The lead doesn't infect the water system in the open field like when duck hunting. Also, the ducks are dumb to eat the lead shot and quail don't have a problem with eating it. The big problem is if they are hunting over water.

15. Lead shot? I'm more certain they KNEW it was in his heart...
If he was "peppered" with up to 200 LEAD shots, and chose to leave many of them inside of him (per the doctors yesterday), then they had to have known they were in his heart.. and in dangerous areas wherein removing them might kill him. Otherwise they never would have left that much lead in a person, because it will kill you with lead poisoning.
