Who Is Harry Whittington? I think you will be surprised
Sunday, July 17, 2005

At a 1986 press conference, Republican primary candidate for governor Kent Hance lashed out at the "do-gooders running and ruining" the state's prison system.

Unfortunately for Hance, Harry Whittington was in the room.

Whittington, a former member of the state prison board, interrupted Hance and blasted him for not knowing the facts about reforms the prison board had put in place.

The flustered candidate tried to end his own press event, but Whittington wasn't finished. "When you called me a do-gooder, you are overlooking the fact that I saw a situation where the laws were being violated, people's constitutional rights were being violated," Whittington said.

2. Why is the term "do-gooder" considered an insult?

4. That's a great question!
I guess you have to consider the source, as to why that term would be deemed an insult.

5. exactly. Ever heard the term "do-badder"?
"Do-gooder" is just another soundbite aimed at shallow thinkers and the gullible. I would like to be thought of as one of those "do-gooders".

3. It figures.
He seems to be an old school Republican, not one of these New Right neoconservative freaks and, of course, Cheney goes and shoots him.

8. What an honarable man he is. I hope he makes it.
I can tell by reading this article that he has lots of enemies who want him out. He is not one to kow tow to the facists that's for sure. We need to email him here at DU and let him know we're pulling for him!!!! He's the sort of man the Republican party used to be before Strom turned it into a hateful party of racisim and coruption.
