Messing with nature

Foods labeled 'organic' should be categorically different from heavily processed products.

Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

THE growing number of Americans who seek out organic foods believe they are healthier than foods with added hormones, preservatives, stabilizers, dyes, pesticides and other artificial ingredients not produced by nature. Unfortunately, the food industry wants to advertise highly doctored food products as organic, and Congress so far is cooperating.

1. know what food labeling bothers me?
Chicken with "no hormones or steroids". For two reasons. First, steroids ARE hormones. Second, use of them in poultry farming in CA has been illegal since the 60s. So, Foster Farms creates this image of wholesome chicken, when they're pretty much the same as everyone else. They're not lying - their chickens don't get steroids. But neither do anyone else's.
