OK, so who was the mysterious 3rd member of that hunting party?
There doesn't seem to be a lot of attention being paid to who the third person in the hunting party was. It has to be someone with a lot of clout or he/she would have fallen on his/her sword to spare Cheney the embarrassment, ridicule and possible legal ramifications of this "accident". Let's face it, any neo-con would love to have Cheney "owe them one" for taking one for the team. Whoever it was has enough power themself to tell Cheney to take a freaking hike and clean up his own mess.
Now who could that person be? This is really bugging me. I'm thinking maybe Scalia, I wonder where he was at that time?
Anyone else have any opinion on this?

11. This quote is outrageous....
Adding to the account, Willeford told Cox news service that "the sun was behind Whittington as well, possibly making him more difficult to see."

NO ONE shoots into the sun. You cant see shit and won't have any decent vision for quite a while.

Especially when you do not know where everyone is.

14. I've got another question.
It was cold, bitterly cold, on Saturday. The winds were kicking up something fierce and coming straight out of the north. I know I could barely feel my fingers outside and that was at midday, not near sunset. What effect did that have on what happened? I KNOW it meant they were bundled up against the cold. How close WAS Harry W. to Darth's gun to be hit with 100+ pellets of birdshot if he was wearing thick clothing?!

25. OK, I think I can help

Depending on shot size (#7 1/2 has 262 bbs, #8 has 302) you can figure Whittington took about 1/3 of them.
The shot spreads at about one inch per yard, depending on choke.
So at thirty yards you have a 2 1/2 to 3 foot pattern.

Sounds about right.

Trouble is, that load is moving at 1295 feet per second and will still pack a lethal punch.
They have been concentrating on pattern spread and never mentioning velocity.
It doesn't take many if you get deep penetration and a few pellets find good veins.

I was hit in the back at about 30 yards with a blast from a 20 gauge (slightly larger bore than a 28) with a load of #7 1/2.
Fortunately, I was wearing a denim jacket. It just planted me face down. Felt like I had been hit by a bull.

If I had been facing the charge I would not be the handsome fool I am today.

26. Very interesting.
Thank you! :toast:

If you're interested in what hunters here in Texas are saying (well, the outdoors writer for a newspaper, anyway), check this (shameless plug!) out: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=417606&mesg_id=417606
I think you'll find it enjoyable reading. The hunters are not happy with Darth.

28. Thanks, txindy. I have been hunting with Legget. Great guy.
I am an original Texan (family in what is now Angelina County since 1630) and it is always good to see something positive on DU from our much-maligned home.

29. He wrote a terrific article. I was most impressed. It was very direct.
And much appreciated. After reading it, I thought it time to let DU see that not all Texans are gullible enough to fall for that fairy tale that Darth et al are spinning. In fact, I imagine we won't be seeing Darth in this state for a bit. Shucks. ;)

Since 1630?! Yeah, I'd say you were original Texans, all right. Wow!

The egregiously irresponsible and arrogantly reckless behavior of Cheney should be clear for anyone to see ... ESPECIALLY the 'redneck base' that claims such an affinity to hunting and the NRA.

16. Oh christ, I can hear it now at freeperville.........
"it was the woman who shot the man (you know women can't hunt) and Cheney took the blame to protect her from the media and the charges. Dick Cheney is a hero, a real man, protecting a poor, little, defenseless woman from the ravages of of the press". :puke:

I'm surprised they haven't floated this around over there yet. Maybe they have, but I'm not about to visit and find out. Thanks for the info, I hadn't heard anything about it. ;)

20. Lol! Yeah, they might say that. They should be careful, though.
Saying it was a woman - one NOT married to Darth - could backfire in a huge way. Even the cultists might balk at the mere suggestion of infidelity. Gee. Bummer.

Pamela Willeford, the U.S. ambassador to Switzerland, another member of the hunting party, told The Dallas Morning News for a story in Tuesday’s editions that she and Cheney didn’t realize Whittington had picked up a bird and caught up with them

15. Well, all the pics of her here yesterday looked oddly familiar to me
Then I saw a pic of Lynn and pictured her in the Way Back Machine...

As tough as all of us are on ol DUCK! Cheney, we probably don't hold a candle to Lynn right now. heh heh heh, Dick's goose is cooked.

To those who lament that this is giving Cheney so much trouble after all the death and destruction he has created: Remember, they got Capone on tax evasion, but by god, they got him! There is a certain poetry to this going down around St Valentine's Day.

7. actually it has been reported that there were a total of five hunters
Cheney, Whittington, Pamela Willeford (Ambassador to Switzerland), Katherine Armstrong, and her sister, Sara Storey Armstrong Hixon. Three would hunt together, while two sat out. Then they'd
rotate.

8. Pamela Willeford, Swiss Ambassador and
Katharine Armstrong's sister was there, also. 3 gals, two guys, so far. They were taking turns with the farm bred birds, three hunting and two in the truck.

10. Katharine Armstrong wasnt there
Yahoo today it quotes Ms. Armstrong as saying:

"Katharine Armstrong, owner of the ranch where the shooting occurred, said it happened toward the end of the hunt, when it was still sunny but as darkness was encroaching and they were preparing to go inside. She said Whittington made a mistake by not announcing that he had walked up to rejoin the hunting line, and Cheney didn't see him as he tried to down a bird.

Armstrong said she saw Cheney's security detail running toward the scene. "The first thing that crossed my mind was he had a heart problem," she told The Associated Press."

If the first thing she saw was Cheney's security detail running toward the scene, and she thought Cheney'd had a heart attack, then she WASN'T an eyewitness and shouldn't be talking in the press about what happened when she has no freaking idea. If she didn't see or hear anything, which she indicates by saying she thought Cheney'd had heart problems, then how the freak does SHE know if Whittington announced himself or not, or even if Cheney had seen him and shot anyway? She DOESN'T KNOW what happened, but Cheney has her out there spinning the press to cover his mess.

Although that apparently makes her an 'eyewitness', somehow. :eyes:

13. Exactly. Katherine and her sister were in the truck
at the time. The other three were out hunting. Katharine would not tell the press who the third hunter was, and she only made a fleeting comment about her sister in the truck.

24. "it happened toward the end of the hunt" --- ?!
toward the end? That almost suggests that they went on shooting after they shot Whittington. Or that the speaker is lost in their own cloud of lies.
