One of the deadliest problems for the Democrats and the left in general is that they - who laughably call themselves the "reality-based community," actually live in a fantasyland of the dizziest sort. By definition they regard any conservative opinion as too stupid for their consideration, and thus insulate themselves so totally from the real world that every morning, when they wake to find another of their fondest, most glittering hallucinations smashed into drab shards at their feet, their shock and surprise is both palpable and heart-wrenching. Well, it would be if I weren't laughing so hard at them.

On a more practical note, this "surreality-based community" where they actually live is crippling their efforts to resist the rising tide of the right. <==== > If you're not functioning in even the same universe as your competition, how can you possibly hope to defeat it?

It's easy to laugh at, or even pity, these folks, but let's hope they never figure out what they are doing to themselves. When your opponent is busily digging a hole, the last thing you want to do is point out that the hole is a grave.

<All this the dope writes after citing the following with a straight face:>

Oh dear, it happened again: By late fall, Democrats had talked themselves into the proposition that the Bush administration was, for all practical purposes, over and done with. A few scant weeks later, in fact just in time for Christmas, Mr. Bush was back, with a respectable and rising job-approval rating and momentum in the news cycle.

<Needless to say, the emphasis is all mine!>

1. progressives didn't coin the term 'reality-based community'... the neocons
did.

THEY CALLED US, the reality-based community, mockingly saying that, in fact, "We're an empire now, and we create reality."

So tell me again who lives in a fantasy world.

3. He's right w/ the point that we discount repub opinion as stupid...
but you see, their opinions are based on what they're told their opinions should be from a series of neo-con sources (radio, Faux, etc.). This unknown hack is just an opinion conduit, not even a source. I doubt the republican party and WH pays him half as much as they pay other journalists to write nice things. If he is getting a check from the Government then obviously our tax dollars aren't really being used "conservatively" are they?

5. What a gas!
On the contrary, rather than finding my "glittering hallucinations smashed into shards" these last few years have not only proven out my "glittering" theories, but have shown me that I've actually been too naive and trusting of conservatives!! I'm slapping myself for ever giving them even a shred of respect. I wonder what these glittering hallucinations are that he's refering too, because every prediction the left has made in the last five years or so have panned out and what's more, the conservatives are even worse than we originally thought they were!

6. It's a sad kind of fun

watching them grasp at straws. The ship is sinking and sucking them under

Seriously, aren't the wingnuts all coming across as total drunks lately? They're either smashed, shouting and torkeling and running into doors and then passed out on the floor in the middle of puke rhetorically (like this guy), or in disoriented nauseous lightshy withdrawal and evasion of reality all the time now.

7. They are at it again I see.
"By definition they regard any conservative opinion as too stupid for their consideration"
When I hear something resembling an idea I will respond. All I hear from the right is attacks upon the speaker as this piece is a perfect example, no substance just attack, belittle and obfuscate.

"and thus insulate themselves so totally from the real world that every morning, when they wake to find another of their fondest, most glittering hallucinations smashed into drab shards at their feet"

What is smashed is the constitution of which I am very fond. All I can say is I have great hope that our legal system will prevail and these criminals that are in-charge of our country will get what they deserve. Jail time.

Would that be the "fantasyland" where not all of our politicians are being indicted, convicted or jailed....by other repugs no less?

You want reality?

Bush has given up on reconstruction in Iraq.

Bush's support by military is dropping precipitously.

The indictments of top Repubs are coming now.

Bush is barely mentioning victory in Iraq, now that SCIRI (and Iran) made such gains in the elections.

Putting Chalabi as head of Oil Ministry, after Chalabi got not support in elections, may sound good to neocons, but it can't be defended as consistent with democracy in Iraq.

Taliban and Al Qaeda are resurging in Afghanistan, and using techniques refined in Iraq.

I don't think you want reality, at all.

The right-nutters are really high on Kool-Aid these days... I suggest they switch to illegal substances to keep on living on their fantasy planet.

2006 promises to be hard on the mindless followers of Dear Leader. Facts keep getting in the way of their delusions at an accelerating rate. Gee! How pesky! Worse, some Republicans (Horror!) are finally developing election-prospect-spines and are publicly doubting the Fuhrer's actions. What is the right-nut world coming to?

Time to ask your children to share their designer drugs, right-nutters. You are in for a rough ride.

Your post almost seems desperate (Nothing but inane comfort that everything is allllllright in your world and everyone else is doomed). The problems in this world and this country are not so simple to be resolved by name calling and hopeful pain causing for those who don't 'believe like you'.

Pull up your blankie and suck your thumb and just forget about the corruption, torture, quagmire, lack of support, loss of civil rights etc.

Uhh... we on the left don't think republican ideas are stupid, actually they are quite smart...as long as your goal is to be completely self-serving regardless of who you screw over (except for the rich of course). The corporations that author most republican bills know exactly what they are doing...they aren't being stupid, just selfish.

Funny how the right needs to feel constantly threatened (by the poor, minorities and the like) and to stoke those fears in others to get people to agree to an agenda that is only in the interest of a very small portion of the population. The idea that welfare queens might be taking some of YOUR tax dollars apparently blinds you to the fact that well-off, well-connected corporations (Halliburton anyone?) are taking A LOT MORE of your tax dollars.

10. This guy must know Rush's dealer
Anyone who thinks ** is all that must be delusional or on heavy drugs. I really feel sorry for this guy.

He and all the idjuts like him remind me of dogs chasing their own tails, barking and yelping and running around and around and around in circles.

At some point, he will drop exhausted to the ground only to realize that HIS TAIL IS STILL THERE!!!!!!
