Average velocity of 1200 to 1300 feet per second.
Most loads for the 28ga show 3/4 ounce of shot or about 300 #7 1/2 pellets

I'm pretty sure lead has been banned from shotgun shells for quite awhile, due to the harm to the environment from birds and fish eating the lead pellets thinking they're food. The pellets are probably steel.

It has velocity's weights and sizes. Heaviest load i know of for a 28ga is #6 shot. I've been shooting 20ga's and 28's on quail for the last 30+ yrs.
