35. Couple of things for you txindy:
1 - Thanks for bringing the refreshments.

2 - I love the smilie champagne! Where did you find that?

3 - I enjoy watching the Longhorns play and I was happy for you to win the NC. Vince Young is amazing and I knew he'd be too much for USC. Having said that, we are going to have to put this friendship on hold next week for one night. Next Monday night your Horns vs my beloved Jayhawks on ESPN's Big Monday College Gameday. Let's get it on and find out just who's going to win the Big XII this year!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

41. So many smilies, so little time.
Here you go: http://www.cosgan.de/index.php

Thanks for that about the Horns. It's funny how the kids and I were so certain that we'd win when we were down by two scores with about two minutes left. Why? Vince Young. He's magic. We're gonna miss 'im!

As for the upcoming game, sure, let's see how it goes. I'd bet on the Horns, but after that early debacle with Duke at the Garden, I'm not all that confident. I have too much respect for the Jayhawks basketball program to take them for granted. It'll be a good game! TOO good! LOL! And that calls for another smiley:

This is what I come up with {}

Ignore the brackets on the ends. They're only there to keep it from becoming a smiley, again.

Can you right click on this and hit 'View image'? What is the address you see?

Adding: Your link goes to one of the main smiley pages. Now, right click on the smiley you want to copy. Then paste that link.

Don't give up. We'll figure it out!

8. If she gets the nomination, she might very well win--most polls have her
ahead of every Democrat and every possible Republican challenger with the exception of McCain.

I'm not a fan, but at least look at the facts before making a blanket statement like this.

17. Can you say, "Name recognition?"
because that's all it is. Put her out there with the DLC's tired old platform and she'll fall flat on her face. Too many men have a kneejerk antipathy toward her, joined by doormat women, antifeminists, feminists, and progressives. Politics certainly makes for bizarre bedfellows, no?

She's unelectable. That's the bottom line.

47. Name recognition
I agree totally. HIlary is detested by too many people, and I'm getting tired of hearing her being discussed as a serious contender at all. If the Democrats are dense enough to actually nominate her they'll get exactly what they deserve. The average person out here in the real world is fed up with both parties at this point, I'm afraid.
They are all concerned with themselves and that's the bottom line. Am I the only one who feels like puking at the mere sight of a politician? They're all spineless and crooked, and includes Hilary. Sorry....and yes, I am a Democrat.

78. Asbestos bill dies in Senate
http://www.wstm.com/global/story.asp?s=4503447&ClientType=Printable

Senate effectively kills asbestos bill

CAPITOL HILL The Senate has effectively killed a bill designed to help asbestos victims.
Supporters of the 140 (b) billion dollar measure were unable to overcome a point of order which claimed the bill violated federal budget rules. The vote was 58-to-41, two votes shy of the 60 votes needed to waive those rules. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist had warned beforehand that such a vote would kill the bill for the year.

Frist, who supports the bill, switched his vote in a procedural move to allow the bill to possibly be considered in the future.
The measure would have forced companies that dealt with asbestos-containing products to contribute to a 140 (b) billion dollar trust fund.

Asbestos victims would be paid from that fund in exchange for dropping all asbestos-related court proceedings. Supporters said no federal money would be involved.

But opponents said there are many who believe the fund is inadequate. They feared federal money would be used if the trust fund runs dry.

119. Don't misunderstand me, but we shouldn't forget that FDR was
one of the "do-nothing democrats" until he 'adopted' Huey Longs populist positions. I'd also point out that if you look at what he did objectively, he made it possible for the ruling elite to re-group and steal our country. He "saved" all of corporate interests that enabled the long march to servitude to continue.

It's sad to say it, but I don't think the country, as a whole, is ready to vote a woman into office.

In addition, Hillary is to the RW as Ann Coulter is to us - she's not just disliked, she is REVILED as representing everything the Republicans hate.

Edited to add: Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to the post number. Welcome aboard the good ship DU, matey!

Perhaps not, but she raises particular bile in many folks, it seems to me. Do you really think there are that many misogynists among us still? That is like so unbelievable, I guess because I am surrounded by powerful, successful women and well, it just is! Troglodytes

27. Yeah, sorry to say so ...
... but there are still too many voters out there who think a woman's place, etc.

It's the same way with the American perception of sex scandals. While TOO MANY Americans were horrified to find out that Clinton had a mistress, people in other countries, especially in Europe, were thinking, "Oh, grow up. What's the big deal?"

Unfortunately, we are behind-the-times in many areas ...

57. oh yeah
there are LOTS of backward people who think a woman can't run a country--ESPECIALLY that a woman couldn't be trusted to handle a "war." And a lot of these people who think so wouldn't admit this, especially if they are in careers where it's not a PC opinion, such as business, law, research, Academia for ex. But you only have to scratch the surface to find these troglodytes.

24. The long key at the bottom of the keyboard is the space bar.
If you hit it twice after using a period, that leaves two spaces.

The keys on either side one up from the bottom are shift keys. If you use it after you use the period, and then two spaces, that makes the first letter of the sentence a capital letter.

Welcome to what will most likely be a very short stay at D.U.

There's no 'party line' around here about Hillary. Her candidacy remains an open question.

38. That is what Maher said.
Hillary is a hot and cold issue here, there is no disputing that.

My issue with the post was the tone, and that it was the first post by the OP. Rather than saying "we should get over it", the OP just agreed that "the Democrats" should get over it.

40. well usually the freeps
advocate Hillary for Prez, from what I've observed. So I didn't automatically assume the worst, tho of course the Hillary issue is always polarizing among Liberals. But on the other hand, it was a topic that came up on tonight's Hardball, so as far as I'm concerned it was a legitimate post. Yes, I agree that referring to Dems in the third person is suspicious...but not every Independent or former Repug is a freeper. I gave the OP the benefit of the doubt...but I could be wrong. There's just not enough evidence IMO.:)

95. Nytemare, the computer is NOT a typewriter.
Whatever you were saying to the other guy, you're wrong about the space bar. You used to have to type two spaces after a period on typewriters, because they used a mono-space font. On computers, using proportional fonts, you only need one space after the sentence-ending punctuation. Two spaces at the end of a sentence makes computer writing look awful.

I do a lot of newsletters, and before I put the text into the publishing program I always have to do a search-and-replace to remove all those extra spaces, put in by those...excuse the anger, but this has bit me in the butt far too many times...

...those RE-TARDS...

...who put two spaces at the end of a sentence! Second only to the ones who use the space bar instead of using tabs and/or the paragraph formatting in their word processor programs.

I don't always agree with Bill Maher but I think his analysis was EXACTLY correct about Hillary's chances. He was very convincing when he praised her and said of course she can DO the job. But is she electable...no. Maher also mentioned the DLC problem--he thinks the Dems are off-base pandering to the Dem-lites
