|
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 08:24 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
that's the first I've heard that far away. Even the Fish & Wildlife report said 30 yards.
The doc he was talking to said 15-30 for those injuries.
WTF?

34. He must have meant 90 feet OR 30 yards. And he misspoke. |
|
Too bad. That would've been a good point to hammer home.

3. Was that a screw up? I've been seeing 30 yards for the past few |
|
days.
I thought the point was that it couldn't have happened from 30 yards. It had to be closer. When Keith said 90, I thought :wtf:

I'm thinking it was closer to "point blank". Keep in mind the witnesses are all controllable and they had almost 24 hours to get their story strait.

16. 90 feet. Here is Corpus Christi Shotgun Demo Video |
|
http://www.caller2.com/specials/2006/gun_demo/index.htmlThey did it at 90 feet (30 yards) to show the spread on a human target. It appears that spread is larger than just the upper chest and face even at 30 yards. My bet is that he was closer than 90 feet.

21. I was in a similar situation as that lawer, up in remote Alaska |
|
(remote Alaska means everyone carries a gun). Some jackass down by the pond, somewhere between 100 and 200 feet away, had his eye on a duck, and although we were clearly visible on the small hill above him, the duck spooked, he took a bead on it and fired. Pellets rained down in the dust all around us - a perfect parabolic arch - but they were quite scattered and not a one hit us. This leads me to believe that he was much closer as well. Just my 2 cents.....

32. This shot was at most 15 yards or 45 feet. Source NRA Firearms |
|
Fact Book. I heard the last couple days the distance was 30 yards. Well, the reports I heard he was shot in the the upper left chest and neck area and I saw a drawing on a news report today that showed a pattern of about 15" at the most. According to the NRA Firearms Fact Book I have, the rule of thumb for the spread of a shotgun pattern from a gun with a (full choke) barrel is 1" for each yard hence a 15" pattern at 15 yards. Of the chokes the (full choke) gives you the smallest pattern spread. The other common chokes used are the (modified choke) which gives a larger pattern spread and there is the (improved cylinder) choke which gives you a much wider pattern. I have never hunted quail but I would guess you shoot them at a fairly close range and you would use a more open choke such as the (improved cylinder) which would probably give a pattern of twice that of a (full coke). In addition to that the 28 Ga. shotgun is a very light gun compared to the 12 ga. that is most popular and I can't imagine that at 30 yards the shot from even a 12 ga. could penetrate to the heart. This could be easily proved by any gun expert that knows how many BB's are in a 28 ga. shell and the ballistics of that round.
