After all the outrages.....The firestorm is over a hunting acident? |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 10:07 PM by Armstead
All hell has broken loose. Reporters are grilling and digging and in high dugeon of self-righteous indignation.
And why? A hunting accident.
Ooooooooonnnnnrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh!!
Now they find their collective gonads?
Hey media folks. Have you ever heard of a little country called Iraq?

But, what if it's just the latest in the ongoing string of distractions? Not the shooting itself...it would have been something else used to distract us from the Plame leak and Scooter's fingering of Bossman.
I agree...they destroy our economy, shred our constitution, and start a virtual world war. But the press finds its voice over an accidental shooting.
The moral is, lies and illegalities are okay as long as they're perpetrated on purpose. Accidents will not be tolerated.

admin. They lie and cover up.
So this just may be the straw that broke the camel's back. At least that's what I'm hoping.

6. Sometimes just a little something catches the public imagination |
|
Like a little third rate burglary back in the 70sthat brought down. People could latch on to the Monica Lewinsky story because it was something they could understand--and apply thier own experience to.
Most people aren't going to understand the nuances of Middle East policy--especially not with our media--but they understand a careless hunter who blasted away without looking at what he was shooting and then tried to cover it up--a guy who thinks he's above the law.
Yeah, this has legs.

Geeze how many similar incidents and much worse happen every day in Iraq, thanks to a much bigger "accident" and yet this is the story that catches fire?

10. It's pretty amazing the level of outrage |
|
In 1804 VP Aaron Burr was in a pistol duel with Alexander Hamilton that probably did not raise as much of a ruckus as a simple hunting accident today. It's hunting, sometimes stupid stuff happens
With so much to criticize the Bush administration about, for the press to go ape about this is ridiculous.

13. But the silver lining is |
|
that Cheney's judgment is being questioned and his credibility is going down the toilet....really don't care how it gets there as long as it does...No one appears shocked over the the fact that is was Cheney (and we have all known this since day one) that told good ole boy Scooter to leak so if this is the proverbial wooden cross, so be it.

11. I totally agree! What the he**??? |
|
There is so much more to be "up in arms" about than Cheney's hunting accident! There's Iraq, possible action in Iran, Valerie Plame and the new found information implementing Darth Vader, who can't shoot a light saber straight, Cheney... wire tapping... the LIES that got us into Iraq not to mention Outsourcing... the FACT that an Arab company will now be supervising our ports... the list goes on and on...
I guess those issues are not "titillating" enough for the viewing audience or so the MSM thinks...
A very sorry state of affairs!

|
Cheney's disdain not just for the press, but for the public to know what's going on. They are realizing that Bushco is secretive and they want to do damage control. I think the regular joes feel like they wouldn't have been treated with kid gloves the way cheney was by the sheriff.

|
I haven't seen ANY investigative reporting, any interviews with people connected to this. Just a few questions lobbed at Snotty, which happens every day.
Its only a few days later, the whole thing will blow over by the weekend unless the guy dies. Then maybe it'll go into next week when more Iran scare talk will take over.

|
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 10:46 PM by Armstead
You're right to an extent. Time will tell whether they are just posturing or will actually do their homework and dig into this in any meaningful way.
And maybe there really is no "there" there, and it was just a series of goof ups.
But their behavior is like Edward R. Murrow compared to the mindless parrotting of the conventional wisdom and GOP Talking Points the press has been robotically doing for too many years over too many real issues.
