8. 2:29 here on the rainy west coast.
I think my 4th Amendment rights are being kept in the hearts of good Americans. Some criminals are trying to kill them, but we will defend them and keep them safe and bring them back out to protect US.

20. ACTUALLY...
There are some weird time zones that are :30 minutes off or :15, or :45 off from the UCT hours... So, When it is 2:50 in NYC, for example, it is 4:20 in Newfoundland.

21. Ohfergawdsakes. Never knew that.
Arizona has daylight savings... except the huge Navajo reservation, which does not.... except for the Hopi reservation (small area in the middle of the Navajo reservation), which does!

My grandfather was an astronomer who lived in Hawaii. He lobbied against DST there, saying that it was not needed because they are near the equator, and the only reason certain people wanted it was to match the NYSE and mainland bankers. He won.

Even TIME is a political thing.

22. Here is a map!

Hmmm... No :15 minute time zone in here... But I am sure there used to be one. It was some island in the Pacific.

24. Maybe that's why...
Timezone "J" is missing from the map - it may have been eliminated.

25. "some island in the Pacific"
In 1958, my grandfather, the astronomer, went to Puka Puka (an atoll comprising three islets and a sandbank 715 miles north-west of Rarotonga and one of the most remote of the Cooks group) to observe a solar eclipse.

He and his colleagues took T-shirts as gifts for the island people. The women excitedly took the shirts into their homes and a few minutes later emerged wearing smiles and the shirts with the breast areas cut out.

My grandfather always spoke fondly of Puka Puka.

28. I grew up in planetariums.
My father is an astronomer too. He ground the mirror for his telescope. I try to ignore such information. But last night I saw a show on Isaac Newton, and for the first time, understood the reflecting telescope.

Grandfather was director of Griffith (L.A.), Morrison (S.F.) and Kilolani (Honolulu) planetariums. My dad worked at Griffith & Morrison, and as an observer at Lick (I lived on Mt. Hamilton as a baby and worked as staff artist at Kilolani in 1969).

I have seen enough planetarium shows for a lifetime.

29. Elgin has a small planetarium...
And I was checked out to run it back in 1970... :-)

Gotta be careful of the old mechanical projectors as there are ways of running the controls that could actually damage it considerably. No sensors or relays to keep you from making it go crunch, or from stripping the gears in the planet motion computing gear trains.
