The lowest humor alert was labeled "BRECHTIAN" and the highest was "Pant Wetting". While he didn't draw attention to it, I saw it immediately and began laughing.

Brecht was a German playwright to whose works I was first introduced in German class. Brecht's works are intentionally designed to create/encourage an emotional DETACHMENT on the part of the audience for 'intellectual' reasons - to encourage a detached analytical viewpoint. They often deal with macabre and darker topics, but not soliciting any empathy whatsoever - what could be aptly regarded as the epitome of "humorless."

You know, someone should make a Daily Show Widget, for what they used to call Konfabulator, (now it's called the YaHoo! Widget engine, which I don't like as much), The widget could change the "color code" depending on how good that nights Daily Show is, from "BRECHTIAN" to "Pant Wetting!"

For the last NUMBER of shows, in fact -- I near wet 'em!

Stewart is referring to the reporter's question, "how long before you knew that VICE-PRESIDENT CHENEY WAS THE SHOOTER?" It's like he's waited all his life for someone to say a line like that!

The International Coffee and cakes bit is a reference to the advertising campaign from several years back. Basically, he was implying that this was one of those moments to remember, just like in the commercials. Mostly a sight gag, to be sure, but laugh-out-loud funny if you get it!
