Remember: Harry Whittington is THE FUNERALGATE LAWYER
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 09:32 AM by IanDB1

Harry Whittington is
THE FUNERALGATE LAWYER

Here are two BradBlog comment posts that contain decent summaries, plus links for more information.

Every time you mention Whittington-- on a blog, in a LTTE, when you call C-SPAN or Talk Radio, refer to him as "The FuneralGate Lawyer."

He is the guy Governoer George W. Bush appointed to cover-up his personal involvement in a case in which a Texas company fed Jewish corpses to wild pigs, among other acts of graverobbing and desecration.

...Terri in S. FL said on 2/13/2006 @ 2:06pm PT...

Just one more thing. The Funeral company that was in trouble in TX in the Funeralgate scandal also had some problems in FL. For those of you in FL, you'll remember Menorah Gardens, the case where they were throwing bodies into the woods after people paid thousands for gravesites and embalming.

Coincidently, this is the exact same company that Bush appointed to do the temporary morgues after Katrina. Well, because they're just so competent.

Heck of a job.

You may want to also Google Armstrong Ranch Texas and read about the family that owns the ranch that the shooting occurred on. This is the 1% that Bush passes those tax cuts for, plus they have their hands all over GOP politics and , of course, Halliburton.

...Terri said on 2/13/2006 @ 1:57pm PT...

Harry Whittington is the lawyer that was appointed to head the Funeral Commission in Texas during the Funeralgate scandal. His job was to make it all go away before Booosh ran for POTUS. Boosh had already perjured himself in this case and it was necessary that this all go away so Boosh wouldn't have to perjure himself again. Whittington arranged the pay off to make it all go away, including the whistle blowers silence.

Google Funeralgate, Lawyer Whittington.

2. Also, potentially linked to Bush tax evasion
See this DU post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2454833&mesg_id=2461163

Charter went into free fall: the company sold 53 of its remaining hospitals; the Justice Department joined the regulatory authorities and opened a nationwide criminal investigation still in progress, alleging 'fraud and abuse...and false claims', to quote Magellan's own filing with the government. Magellan said it was co-operating with the investigations; no findings have been made. In February this year, Charter filed for bankruptcy. Crescent Operating took over what was left of the hollow empire.

But how much did Bush know about his investment with Crescent? The Observer has opened one eye of the blind trust to question how much Bush knew about where his money was invested. Crescent's filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows that on 4 April 1997 - three months after Crescent bought into Charter - the Lone Star Trust owned 4,220 shares in Crescent; the documents are available to anyone taking trouble to examine them.

A further document at the commission, dated December 1998, shows that the previous 29 January, one year after the Charter purchase, Lone Star Trust sold its shares in Crescent at a profit of $114,000.

A reason for the sale was given: Bush was concerned about a conflict of interests involving Crescent's investments in the casino business, to which he was politically opposed. Crescent's gambling ambitions had dogged Bush during his election to the governorship in 1994 and returned to haunt him as Rainwater announced his intention to buy Station Casinos of Las Vegas.

There is another twist to the Crescent stock sale: Bush's trust sold this 'blind' stock when shares were at their peak value of $40 each - for a total of $168,800. Shortly after the sale, Crescent's stock plunged to $21 per share.

Later in 1998, the Lone Star Trust was liquidated as Bush prepared his bid for the presidency. In November of that year, John Goff resigned from Charter Behavioral's board.

......

While the appeals process trudges along, the Whittington property continues operating as a surface parking lot, and the city moves ahead on its garage plans as though nothing stands in its way. An architectural team was hired to design the structure, and the city has set a completion date for some time in 2004, although a groundbreaking date is still up in the air. As for Whittington, no one expects him to back away from this fight. As a lawyer and owner of several downtown properties, he's no slouch when it comes to real estate deals. In the mid-Eighties he orchestrated the development of the Austin Centre, which houses offices and the Omni Hotel, and later sold the property to the developer after signing off on the design. The project went on to become downtown's most valuable property in the late Nineties, when Crescent Real Estate cheerfully paid $96.4 million for the booty. In a similar vein, Whittington says, he wants to capitalize on revitalization efforts in the Convention Center neighborhood by putting a mixed-use development on his block, located a stone's throw from Waller Creek.

13. Sorry for the additional post here
Just wondered, could anyone with knowledge of the type of trust mentioned in that post explain how a trust like that, liquidated in 1998 would give Bush some sort of return 3 years after its liquidation?

Does that seem strange to others as well?

Let's keep it kicked for the day

What might the man know that could hurt bushco & the junta? Probably a LOT. How does Cheney handle dissent? Not especially well.

How many 'conspiracy theories' about the criminals in the malAdministration and corporate boardrooms have been proved right so far? I've lost count. No matter what we suggest they may have planned/done, the truth, when some of it finally comes out, has always been worse than the theories.

How would Cheney handle a guy who knew a LOT and say, suggested Cheney do something Cheney didn't want to do? Bettin Cheney would not pat him on the back, agree, then do it.

And let us NEVER forget illegal surveillance. Not hard to imagine Cheney keeping tabs of all those who have info which could hurt him and make sure they weren't planning to use the info. Not hard to imagine him doing anything.

35. I read Molly's column, too, and she must have forgotten

Whittington's FuneralGate involvement. Good on him that he realizes prisons create hardened criminals out of petty criminals, bad on him that he defended FuneralGate criminals.

Desecrating bodies is one of the nastiest crimes I can think of; bereaved families put their trust in funeral directors to handle the dead with respect and give them the caskets and vaults that the famly paid for, not toss them in the woods or feed them to hogs.

A lawyer who'd defend such despicable people must not have much in the way of moral principles; he's the sort who gives lawyers a bad name.

CHENEY: Harry, we're going to attack Iran in a few days, and I need a distraction

HARRY: I agree. Hey, be careful with that thing. Why don't you put down that beer before you reload?

CHENEY: I need you to take a hit for the team, Harry.

HARRY: Anything for you, Dick. You know that.

CHENEY: When I said I need you to take a hit for the team, I meant I need to shoot you.

HARRY: Excuse me?

CHENEY: I'm going to shoot you in the shoulder. Just pepper you a little.

HARRY: Dick, you're drunk. Get back in the truck.

CHENEY: Come on, hold still! I can't get a clear shot!

HARRY: Why don't you shoot the Swedish chick instead?

CHENEY: No, we need her to launder the Afghanistan heroin money going into the CIA accounts. Besides, you're being a pain in the ass about that parking garage and executing the retards.

HARRY: But if you shoot me, people will start talking about FuneralGate again.

CHENEY: Nobody cares about feeding Jewish corpses to pigs. Besides, it's all so complicated and esoteric. Nobody will pay attention to that. Come back and hold still!

HARRY: No! You're a crazy drunken fool! I won't let you shoot me!

CHENEY: Hey, Secret Service guy... hold him still for me!

SECRET SERVICE GUY: I got him, Mister Vice President.

CHENEY: Should I shoot you now, or wait 'til I get home?

HARRY: Wait 'til you get home!

SWEDISH AMBASSADOR CHICK: Shoot him now! Shoot him now!

BLAM!

HARRY: Oh, the pain! The pain!

CHENEY: I told you to hold him still, damn it!

SECRET SERVICE GUY: I'm afraid you shot my hand, Mister Vice President.

CHENEY: Shut-up, you son-of-a-bitch! I told you to hold him still!

BLAM! BLAM!

SWEDISH AMBASSADOR CHICK: Oh my God! You killed the Secret Service Guy!

CHENEY: It's not the first time, either. Hey, other Secret Service Guy... activate Operation Windex.

HARRY: Oh, my head! It hurts! It hurts!

CHENEY: You think that hurts? Pull down your pants, you pussy bastard!

HARRY! Hey! What are you... NoOOoooooo!!!

CHENEY: I always like a little Brokeback Mountain action after I kill a man! Take it, bitch!

The Naked Prey (1966)

Plot Summary for
The Naked Prey (1966)

A group of men are on safari. One of the party refuses to give a gift to a tribe they encounter. The tribe is offended, chases after the party, and one-by-one, cruelly (disgustingly) kills all but one of the safari members. The last surviving member is sentenced by the tribal leader to be hunted down by a party of tribal men. Naked and weaponless he is set loose, the hunters hot on his heels, beginning a life-or-death hunt through wild Africa.

Funeralgate

Whittington was named presiding officer of the Funeral Service Commission after a major shakeup of the agency in 1999. His board reluctantly agreed to pay $50,000 as part of the settlement to end the two year-old Funeralgate case, in which Jewish graves were desecrated, and the corpses left in the woods to be eaten by wild pigs.

The company involved in the Menorah Gardens scandal, Service Corporation International, was later awarded a no-bid contract to count and collect corpses in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.

"Funeralgate" is the name given to a scandal involving George W. Bush and family campaign contributor Robert Waltrip, owner of Service Corporation International, the largest funeral home company in the world.

In 1999, Bush was subpoenaed but refused to testify in a lawsuit filed against the state of Texas and SCI by Eliza May, former director of the Texas Funeral Service Commission, who claimed that she was fired when she refused to quit investigating SCI despite pressure from Bush and his then Chief of Staff Joe Allbaugh.

In one instance at Menorah Gardens, a Jewish cemetery, SCI desecrated graves and left corpses in the woods where they were devoured by wild hogs.

54. It Gets Weirder
My God!

The general manager of Menorah Gardens, Peter Hartman, died by apparent suicide on December 27, 2001.<1>

Harry Whittington, was named presiding officer of the Funeral Service Commission after a major shakeup of the agency in 1999. His board reluctantly agreed to pay $50,000 as part of the settlement to end the two year-old Funeralgate case. <2>

In February 2006, Whittington was shot in the face by Vice President Dick Cheney in an apparent hunting accident.

Honestly. I never knew this prior to right this moment. Won't this get printed-out to show all. And boy the phone lines will be hot tomorrow!

Thanks for this significant, yet horribly sad info. Un-believable. Why did people vote for them? They must be ill-informed by out (cough) wonderful tube-media.

Short version:
The guy Cheney shot was involved in Funeralgate (gravedumping by Bush pal)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=403640&mesg_id=403640

Long version:
Cheney shoot-victim Whittington replaced Funeralgate whistleblower in '99
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x403342

The long version contains a hard-to-find column by Molly Ivins on Funeralgate.

I wonder if Whittington was about to "pull a McCain" and spill the beans on Funeralgate.

59. That must be why Cheney shot him.
He knows where the bodies are buried.
