"They were not wild quail......they do not fly high like pheasants..." |
|
This is what one caller to the Peter Boyle radio show said this morning. He said these quail were raised as domestic and released just for the hunt. And that they did not have the strength to fly too high off the ground. And that, as a general rule, quail fly very low to the ground. Whereas, pheasants will lift straight up and fly high with blue sky under them....For what it's worth.

would have specific safety measures for such a hunt. Since the weapon would be aimed at a lower angle the chances of hitting a fellow hunter is greater, therefore, the need for safe practice is even greater.

of Cheney's CIRCULAR line of fire.
He shot a man BEHIND him... in the face. A man in a bright orange outfit. It's pretty darn clear that Cheney turned with his finger on the trigger and fired before verifying his target. The NRA should be outraged, This is a stunning example of a totally reckless hunter.... and a very good reason why there should be more stringent controls on who can get a gun license. If there was a test.. Dick would flunk out.. BIG TIME.
BTW.. why isn't the NRA screaming about this... hypocrits??? wimps???

5. DNC shold request NRA make a statement on this... |
|
We have never had the opportunity to put them on the defensive. Dean should request NRA clarify their gun safety issue on this matter. :)

4. You never point a weapon at another person unless you're shooting them. |
|
That's the gun safety rule. You don't hunt in a circle. You don't shoot in the direction of a friend.

we only know what they have spoon fed the media
if he was for instance shooting at a goose.........that requires a federal permit/stamp....and he would be in violation of federal law.

7. We have tons of wild quail on our farm |
|
They do indeed always fly low to the ground, and do alot of gliding. They really are funny, bobbing along with their little topknots looking for something to eat, and there's noting cuter than a family of them--mom in front, and babies tripping along behind in a conga line.
One of our neighbors has said he likes to hunt them, and that they're quite tasty. I never could understand that, as one of the quails' favorite places to hunt for food is in the composting horse manure pile............

I'll bet the quail are finding all kinds of tasty morsels in there (both earthworms, and -- um -- the kind which sometimes occur in horses).
Re: the flight patterns of wild vs. captive-reared quail, Bill Clinton pointed out that, regardless of how high they fly, Cheney was assured of getting lots of birds that day, so there was actually no need for him to risk a low-visibility shot (when he might just wound the bird -- or, as it turned out, hit someone). I guess this shows he was either a) greedy, or b) overstimulated!
