3. Here's what really bugs me about this |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 11:00 AM by Norquist Nemesis
(no pun intended on the 'bugs me')
"The 400,000-member ABA said that if the president believes the FISA is inadequate to protect Americans, he should to ask Congress to amend the act."
and
"The group also called on Congress to investigate the president's program to determine its legality, the extent of telephone and e-mail spying, and whether information obtained through the program was used in legal proceedings."
The President has to re-authorize 'the program' every 45 days. How do we know that the program he authorized originally and susbsequent programs are identical? NO ONE WAS OVERSEEING THE PROGRAMS!
Just changing the law to fit doesn't wash with me, either. I want a full investigation of the program from it's inception. The let's-just-fix-this-and-move-on attitude is outrageous! Why isn't the Leader of the Free World held to account at the same level he demands of other leaders? :grr:

4. Didn't the ABA support Alito? It will be amusing to see the republicans |
|
and the Administration attack the ABA over this one. After all, they drilled it into us that the ABA's support of Alito was an endorsement by the ultimate authority on law.

5. Did I miss an amendment to the Constitution being passed giving Congress |
|
the right to override the Constitution without going through the whole amendment approval process or was that changed too? Last time I checked if it's unconstitutional, as spying on an American without a warrant would be, it wouldn't be up to Congress to allow or not... although goodness knows they've passed laws and such before in an attempt to circumvent it... only to be thrown out by the high courts.

6. Remember the ABA is the gold standard when it comes to |
|
"constitutional issues". If Alito is good enough than so is the probe.
