Dick Had Sat. Dinner Party & Sun. Quail Lunch Before Visiting Hospital >>>

He couldn't be bothered to go with Whittington to the hospital after he shot him, but he was "very worried," so that's okay. Dick never misses a meal, apparently.

"He immediately went to Harry's side and was right there and made sure his detail was totally focused on him," she said. "Of course he's very concerned. He's been checking in almost on a minute-by-minute basis."

Afterward, she said, her brother-in-law and another guest went to the hospital to check on Mr. Whittington. The rest of the party had dinner, and Mr. Cheney, who had flown to Texas on Friday night, departed on Sunday.

She said Cheney stayed "close but cool" while the agents and medical personnel treated Whittington, then took him by ambulance to the hospital. Later, the hunting group sat down for dinner while Whittington was being treated, receiving updates from a family member at the hospital. Armstrong described Cheney's demeanor during dinner as "very worried" about Whittington.

Armstrong said someone in the security detail called the ambulance, which arrived 20 or 30 minutes later.

After the ambulance left "in a cloud of dust," she drove Cheney to the ranch house, staying in touch with family members who followed Whittington to the hospital and getting updates that he would be OK.

Back at the ranch, the group ate dinner and went to bed by 10 p.m. She described Cheney's demeanor as "very worried" about Whittington.

Armstrong contacted the Corpus Christi Caller-Times around 9 a.m. Central time on Sunday. Asked why the information was not disseminated on Saturday night, immediately after the accident, Armstrong said: "The last thing that was on our mind was the media. We were thinking about Harry."

The manager of a ranch in neighboring Brooks County attended a quail lunch at the Armstrong Ranch headquarters midday Sunday with Cheney. Lavoyger Durham, manager of El Tule Ranch, said the luncheon talk was of "North Korea, India, China, Taiwan."

There was no discussion about the accident the night before, he said, but it became known at the luncheon that Cheney asked to have the morning hunt canceled. "He didn't want to shoot," Durham said.

"He is devastated." It took a while for that devastation to set in, didn't it?

More like the rest of the hunting party didn't want him to shoot. They knew the danger they'd be in...

17. obviously overcome by the gravity of what he'd done...
:eyes:

Seriously, who goes to a dinner party after shooting people? Other than the Godfather.

I mean, how can you even eat at all after something like that? Remember, he just saw his friend's face all over blood and with a hundred little metal balls pitted into the skin. And he saw his friend getting rushed off to the hospital -- all because of him.

So yeah, it's a marvel that he can go to a dinner and keep anything down.
