Call the Texas attorney general RIGHT NOW!!! Prosecute Cheney!!!
The other day, I heard a radio discussion about what charges Cheney could face in regards to this shooting. The people discussing the situation said that if Mr. Whittington (or his family if he dies) doesn't press charges, the state still could. We need to urge Texas AG Abbott to pursue this course of action!!! I know the guy is probabloy in the pocket of BushCo, but we have to try. Here's the State of Texas webpage with all the contact information:

http://www.oag.state.tx.us/agency/contacts.shtml

Do this ASAP!!!

(Sorry if this has been brought up already, but I can't use search yet.)

6. I think the AG would know all that.
He just needs to be urged in the right direction.

9. the target is tempting, but...
I understand the revulsion with Cheney, but really, doesn't it diminish our legitimacy to try to criminalize an accident?

12. Welcome to DU!
It's up to the prosecutor to decide whether or not to prosecute. It's for the jury to decide whether or not what happened was a crime. Lots of accidents are crimes.

10. Two words
"Executive Privilege"

they use that for everything, when "Bill Clinton did it" and "9/11 changed everything" fail . . .

11. Urge the AG to prosecute him for what?
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 03:08 PM by sparosnare
Please give some sort of idea of what the AG should be told - I'd hate for DUers to call up his office and sound uninformed. And, before any phone calls are made, I think it might be best to wait until Mr. Whittington goes home from the hospital.

13. Options:
If Whittington doesn't die: criminal negligence or reckless endangerment.

If Whittington dies: involuntary manslaughter or manslaughter.
