Cheney: "I had a beer at lunch..."
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 03:22 PM by mb7588a
some five or so hours earlier. Admitted it to Brit Hume and Hume just reported it on Studio B.

On Edit: Also the docs refused to comment on a Blood Acohol Content test earlier that was done on Harry.

What time was Cheney interviewed by the cops?

70. Now we know that Armstrong LIED, LIED, LIED
The lady who owned the ranch and who hosted Cheney's hunting party was previously quoted as saying that the "shooters" did not drink any of the beer that was available at a picnic lunch. If she lied about that, then we can't believe anything else she said.

71. The police use a rule of thumb - If someone tells them they had
one drink -- they multiply by 3.

For the types who deny everything - multiply by even more.

54. Cheney, a known liar, says it was A (one) BEER .
That could mean anything from two beers to 5 shots of whiskey.

Does make him sound like a regular guy, though, doesn't it? And just one itty-bitty beer at lunch sounds a whole lot better than, "I shot him because I was hammered."

I take nothing Dick says at face value.

30. Well, if you take into accounting the Chimpy/Cheney method of
accounting it probably was just one beer. What you or I might consider one beer may pale into comparison of what those two a$$wipes call a beer. Remember the war was going to pay for itself? That the Medicare Rx program is estimated to be less than half of what it will actually cost? That we would be in and out of Iraq in six days, six weeks but certainly not six months. They are just using a different a numerical scale then the rest of us. One beer = six scotchs neat, one beer = one keg. Or, maybe, he did have one beer after drinking a bottle of wine at the picnic and few Irish Coffees to warm his skanky hackles. They will never ask if that was all he had to drink. Just another carefully crafted staged performance. This news "interview" has Rove's smudgy little fingerprints all over it.

101. Not likely.
What amazes me is that we go through this here every damn time.

An Official News Story is so full of holes that an eight year old can see them, and we have this crop of, I don't know, prudes I guess, who run around demanding that we stop speculating about what is actually being lied about. Then as the Official News Story unravels into a comedy of restatements, and as most of our rather basic speculation is confirmed, the duprudes disappear into the woodwork.

Not that they are reading these threads anymore, but what happens here on DU and on the other blogs is BASIC JOURNALISM. (Too bad the clowns over in the MSM no longer bother with this.) We take apart and analyze the Official Story, and when we start finding holes, contradictions, and improbabilities we start asking questions. We build a plausible alternative narrative, or perhaps several, and start seeing if the alternative narrative is in fact a better fit for the known facts than the Official Story. When it is - we run with it. What we do here HAS AN EFFECT. Cheney's drunken face off would have been left as 'just an accident' had the blogosphere not howled about the drinking. We would still be hearing how it was the victims fault.

I suppose the duprudes play a positive role as sparring partners. We get to vet our speculations against their determination to shut us up. Our arguments get stronger by their making us defend them. So to that extent they are useful. They really should line up afterwards and apologize for being so freaking wrong every damn time.

Then why did MSNBC scrub that sentence from their site? Not because it wasn't true, obviously. Someone leaned on them to get rid of any reference to alcohol, and they caved.

But now, too many witnesses, and Cheney has to own up to alcohol comsumption before the shooting.

This is rich.

Well, that speaks volumes about their personal accountability, doesn't it? :eyes: Sheesh. It also speaks volumes about Darth's tendency to drink and smoke when his keeper is gone. Gee, and many of us were chastised over the past couple of days by some folks here for even suggesting that Darth would still drink. Him being a guy with a bad heart and all. They assured us he'd know better!

53. "Who would you rather have a beer with" - takes a whole new meaning
doesn't it?
"I just had a beer" = "the check is in the mail"

62. This mean that DICK CHENEY IS STILL AN ALCOHOLIC
Dick Cheney has a history of drinking problems and a number of DUI's under his belt.

There is no such thing has a reformed ALCOHOLIC who still drinks. Period!

Houston! We have a problem.

63. alcohol/medication interactions: wasn't Cheney taking an opiate recently?
I distinctly remember that it was reported in the news that Cheney had to go the hospital at least once this winter, because he was taking a painkiller that depressed his breathing. It's the strong opiate painkillers that have this distinctive side effect.

Also, Cheney has got to be on a Caligari's cabinet-worth of various heart and blood pressure medications. Some of those might interact with alcohol also.

Nother piece of the puzzle...

82. Isn't that one of the signs of an alcoholic
is they start drinking earlier and earlier in the day? Most disciplined social drinkers I know go with 4:30 or 5:00 pm as happy hour, not LUNCH. Not even on weekends.
