Cops all time #1 response to drinking - "I ONLY HAD ONE BEER..yada..yada"
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 03:32 PM by Vinnie From Indy
That statement uttered in front of a cop at a shooting scene would 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 require some sort of breathalyzer or blood sample be taken. Can there be any doubt that this event is being covered up? Horribly, I might add.

1. Should a man with a heart condition be drinking alcohol?
Drink up, Cheney!

9. I don't think so, I had a blood clot in my left leg 4 years ago
Spent a week in the hospital was on coumadin for several months and I still drank then. Have PAD now, taking blood pressure pills every day and when I was drinking it made no difference. Blood pressure pills don't make your part lay down either. where does all these myths come from anyway. WTF

17. IMHO, I think people assume that just they because wouldn't do
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 10:07 AM by converted_democrat
something that others wouldn't do it either.. Just my .02 cents..

If you look at the posts that were telling everyone that there was no way that Cheney could've been drinking, the reasoning was because he was in poor health and on medication.. Drinking with those issues isn't a smart idea, but that doesn't mean that people don't do it.. I think people were assuming because they wouldn't make a poor choice that others wouldn't do it either..

5. It depends.

My dad had an angioplasty in 1993 and in November 2005 was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. After Dad's angioplasty, his cardiologist told him to drink red wine for his heart, but not more than 2 glasses a day. That made me laugh at the time because my fundie stepmother was (and remains) anti-alcohol and she was tying herself up in knots over what the cardiologist said.

My dad has never been much of a drinker and it was funny to me that he actually started drinking red wine for the first time on his doctor's recommendation.

Edited to add that my dad has been on tons of heart meds since 1993, and his cardiologist's recommendation was made knowing that (since he was the guy prescribing the meds).

8. Excellent Question!
I've been wondering this. And about any interaction with meds.

2. Exactly
A person pulled over on Friday night at 2:00 in the morning get asked by cops "how many drink" Driver says "just a couple". Cops get driver to perform sobriety test RIGHT THEN AND THERE not 14 hours later
and surprise the driver is drunk. "Chainy" is full of shit

4. Another GOP excuse, that, if it flies, will empty the prisons
Remember Michael Deaver? Big Republican wheeler-dealer during the Reagan years. There was a famous Newsweek cover with Deaver on the cover in his limo on his mobile phone with the caption "Who Is This Man Calling?" Deaver was eventually tried for corruption and influence peddling, and his proffered defense was that he couldn't remember being corrupt or trying to peddle any influence because he was a falling-down drunk alcoholic. Please find me innocent.

I remember thinking at the time about how many guys are sitting in prison today who were ripped on alcohol when they committed their special crimes, and how many of them would file appeals if Deaver's defense worked. It didn't work, of course, because Republicans aren't accustomed to being held legally accountable for their crimes, and Deaver or his white shoe attorneys didn't have the experience or sense to know what a bogus excuse "I was drinking pretty heavily" is in a criminal courtroom.

"I only had one beer" translates in a criminal prosecution to at least a six pack. Which is why Cheney has already been cleared, because he can't be allowed to be held accountable for shotgunning a man in the face.

10. But Darth already has a couple of DUI's - he should know better
than to try to play it off that way.

Well, they were back when he was in his 20's - you had to be pretty falling down drunk back then to get busted.

12. Heh ... yeah ...

The security guard at my office, also a police officer and also a Republican FWIW, laughed out loud at that. "Yeah, RIGHT!" was his comment.

14. As someone who is ashamed to say he knows the tricks you never say one bee
As someone who is ashamed to say he knows the tricks you never say one beer, cops will think you're lying. Always say you had two beers and stick with the story. The idea is to NOT give them any reason to force a breathalizer on you.

Luckily, I no longer have to worry about such things.

15. Most pathetic drunks are at least willing to admit to "a couple"
of beers when being questioned by the police - this guy couldn't even "fess up" that much!

16. Exactly! Enough whining about the delay in notifying the media.
Why was the Vice President's Secret Service bodyguards used to prevent the police from conducting a routine investigation and breathalyzer test?
