MSNBC’s Missing Paragraph Reappears; Reporter Misled By VP’s Office
MSNBC’s Missing Paragraph Reappears; Reporter Misled By VP’s Office
Last night, MSNBC scrubbed a paragraph about alcohol from an online article about Cheney’s hunting accident:

Now, they’ve restored the paragraph, slightly reworked:

In a recorded, on-the-record phone call with NBC News, Armstrong said that beer may have been available at lunch that day. “If someone wants to help themselves to a beer,” she said, “they may, but I did not see anyone do that,” Armstrong says. She says she was not sure if there were beers in the coolers but wasn’t ready to rule it out: “There may be a beer or two in there, but remember not everyone in the party was shooting,” she told NBC News.

The story suggests that the White House misled MSNBC about whether Cheney had consumed alcohol. A new paragraph from the revised article:

NBC News called the vice president’s office for comment four times Tuesday and Wednesday and asked whether the vice president or anyone in the hunting party had consumed any alcohol on Saturday prior to the accident. In an e-mail statement Wednesday to NBC News, the vice president’s press secretary referred NBC News to the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Department report on the incident.

3. They fawn over these evil bastards, who in return leave them
twisting in the wind with egg on their faces.

We need a good old-fashioned adversarial relationship between the press and politicians, again, one that goes BOTH ways.

9. They're covering up something.
No way would they dance around like this unless there were something Darth Cheney didn't want us common plebe Americans to know. The Vice President's office has basically been caught in a lie, since Cheney himself admitted he'd had beer that day (albeit he claims much earlier than the shooting).

Where there's smoke, there's fire. They're hiding something.

10. A verbal stretch, but probably true...
The VP's office referred reporters to the sheriff's report which said "The investigation reveals that there was no alcohol, or misconduct involved in the incident. Not that nobody had a drink, but that nobody was impaired (due to alcohol) when the shooting occurred. I'm sure that they wanted peopole to assume it meant nobody had been drinking, but they can probably claim their statement was correct (if perhaps "Clintonesque")

So much for Armstrong and the M$M trying to cover for him. He submarined their attempts.

12. A picnic for the potentates of the gop...
and "There may have been a beer or two in there." OK, who the hell plans their parties anyway? One or two beers? Should we assume that they were into Pickles single malt scotch rather than proletarian beer? NO ONE packs one beer, if you take beer at all. What a crock.

13. So they referred reporters to the Sherrif Dept Report, which said "no
alcohol", and they knew it said that, and they knew that it was innacurate?

Am I getting this right?

23. Is this the sherrif's dept that didn't have access to any of the...
witnesses or shooter until the following day? They interviewed no one until the next morning, when the effects of alcohol consumed would have faded into the 'sunset' the night before when the incident took place.

Just expanding on your observations...

Did anyone notice the subtitle of the last section? It could be a little more clear.

Bush shot at ranch while governor

Armstrong also told NBC News that while George W. Bush did shoot at her ranch while he was Texas governor, she has never hosted him while he was president.

20. Is that what they are calling it now?
They got blackmailed and then they got caught scrubbing it, and then new information that came out that showed that the original report was true.

Rove's operation is getting sloppy.

21. parsing words
Was anyone drinking? There may have been one or two beers. (doesn't rule out other booze)

Did you drink? I had one beer. (also doesn't rule out other booze)

Has there been anyone yet to say there was no OTHER alcohol consumed? Has Cheney said the ONLY drink he had was one beer?
