Does anyone else feel this way about the Abramoff situation? |
|
I say, if there is corruption, root it out. Hunt it down and shine the light on it. It doesn't matter if Reps or Dems were involved. Anyone who participated in this corruption should go down.
However...I am concerned that this situation might take the focus off of the true issues here.
We have a Republican-controlled Congress that stands in lockstep with a dictator. BushCo lied us into a war for which he was totally unprepared. He has no exit strategy and no plan for success. He's bankrupting the country and soaring the deficit to unprecedented levels--while eroding the dollar. His administration outed a covert CIA operative for political purposes. Junior ignored the Constitution and our democratic ideals when he chose to secretly wiretap American citizens--after being told that he couldn't do this. Now, these bastards have their sights set on Iran or Syria.
The country is waking up to BushCo's failings. They are starting to figure out the PNAC agenda--even if they don't understand PNAC. America is catching on.
I want BushCo's failings, corruption, horrific policies, lying and unConstitutional actions to be the focus of the 06 and 08 elections.
If Abramhoff is huge, and if the scandal convinces the American public that 06 should be about rooting out corruption--then they might forget which Congress critters stood with Bush during all of these bad decisions.
Again, I think corruption should be squelched, and revealed. However, what BushCo has done is just frightening, horrific and so unAmerican.
I hope that the Ambramoff scandal doesn't cause people to forget that BushCo's war, lies, corruption, dirty tricks, bad economic policies and evil---are really the issues here.
Am I nuts for thinking this way?

1. Do we still have troops in Iraq? I can't remember |
|
The problem with obsessing over the Abramoff scandal is that it's once again turning our attention away from ACTION. Dems have to stop being the party of REACTION.
What happened to Murtha's proposal to deploy Iraq troops NOW? What's happening with Kennedy's Medicare For All proposal? Did the NOLA levees get rebuilt to withstand a Cat 5?
Who's working for change, rather than just pointing fingers across the aisles at the most corrupt?

I have those fears as well. I keep telling myself that this is all they are: fears.
It is possible that the Abramhoff scandal will serve to accentuate the evil that is the BushCo Admin. There is a certain segment of the population who refuse to see the bad because they can't bring themselves to believe that the American dream is over. My hope is that once a few heads roll, more people will come to understand that life is not what is used to be and there is no going back... unless the evil chancre is debrised and cauterized, sterilized and sewn shut once and for all.

3. See, there's where you know that you're a true Democrat... |
|
Democrats don't give concessions to their own party if there is a scandal. They allow the evidence to be shown. If left in the hands of republicans this whole thing would have been swept under the rug like WMDs, the Downing Street minutes, no bid contracts, and the closed door energy meetings.
Democrats believe in accountability. That's how Clinton got impeached. A series of dems voting on the repub side so that there's accountability for his actions.

5. Look at it this way:Abramoff represents the grease on the Neocon wheels |
|
Go after him and follow this up, and likely you'll hit all the other scandals going on too.
