TIME
Cheney Speaks: The VP Responds to Critics
Feb. 15, 2006

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1159864,00.html

Vice President Cheney has always prided himself on imperviousness to Beltway hysteria, since he has no plans to seek the top job. But it was that very detachment, which President Bush has generally seen as an asset, that helped produce the missteps in the aftermath of Cheney's weekend hunting accident. The PR crisis has now thrown the White House off its intended message — heard much about health savings accounts lately?— and raised questions about its ability to handle a crisis.

Cheney stayed out of public sight for three days after the Saturday evening shooting of 78-year-old lawyer Harry Whittington, with news photographers catching surveillance-style shots of the Vice President hustling into the side door of the West Wing. Finally, under pressure from Bush aides and much of Washington's Republican establishment, Cheney decided to sit down Wednesday afternoon with an interviewer whom the VP appears to trust, Brit Hume of Fox News.

Hume said in an interview with Fox News Channel after Hume said in an interview with Fox News Channel after talking to Cheney at the White House: "He said he'd had a beer at lunch."

1. Admitting to "one" beer is right up there with I once "experimented"
with smoking the funny weed.

13. LOL
'round these parts we admit to "two beers". I base this on past DUI clients that I've represented and their statements as recorded in the police reports.

3. So what? He said he only had one beer and I believe him.
I mean, I had only had one beer at lunch today too:

(my apologies to those who may have seen this pic in other threads, but it cracks me up and fits the situation so well)

6. *A* beer?
No. Sorry. ONE beer will NOT impair an adult to the level he was apparently impaired.

ONE beer will not even affect an adult- unless they're a "little person".

ONE beer? Cheney can't responsibly imbibe ONE beer?

Please.

9. If you're medicated -- as someone with Cheney's heart problems would be. .
one beer can pretty much toast you, depending on the quantity and composition of the other drugs.

But I agree with you -- from what we know of Cheney, I can't picture him as a "quaff a cold one, then back to work" sort of guy. Toss his 'scripts into the mix and he could very well have been cheney-faced (or is that what we're saying about Whittington these days?).

12. You don't have to be drunk to get a DUI. Pills will do the trick as well.
What exaclty is he taking? That could be negligent behavior whether alcohol was involved or not.

7. Is that in the Sheriff's report?
Was that question even asked? What does TX state law have to say about playing with guns under the influence - that it's allowed if temperatures are greater than 40 degrees F, and a man feels he needs a cold one, two, three . . . or the whole six-pack to wash down the fried chicken?

11. And like Clinton who "didn't inhale"
Cheney didn't swallow. Just swished it around his mouth for awhile then spit it out, kinda like the wine-tasters do.
