Ok, I believed Cheney up until.....
To me, (maybe I am under a spell) he was telling the truth about the accident itself. He sounded honest and at ease when talking about it.

But, then I actually noticed his face getting red. When Brit Hume asked him about the aftermath and the delay in notifying the press. Cheney said, that there were things to do, like notify the family. (The wife was there at the ranch, but his kids were elsewhere). And, he wanted to be sure of the guys condition. That is what took so long, that delayed the notification to the press.

I hate to say it, but I have to give Brit Hume (who I despise) credit. He asked the right questions, like:

"So, when did the kids get notified?" (since this was one of his excuses). This is when Cheney reddened and started lying. He said, "Oh, I don't know, Someone else notified them."

How I know that he is lying about the kids (not knowing who notifying them and at what time) is that if this is one of his reasons for delaying press notification, then wouldn't you be asking, "Hey, have the kids been notified?" at which point you would notify the press.

and Brit asked:

"So, one could argue that you don't even know his real condition as we speak. So, why would that be a reason to delay notifying the press?" To that, Cheney started bs-ing about the "importance to getting it right (the guy's condition).

(paraphrasing)

1. Oh please
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 06:44 PM by FreedomAngel82
It was all a dog and pony show. It's faux for crying out loud. And why would they want to tell the kids before they take the person to the hospital? Don't people usually call AFTER when they KNOW what's going on? And why didn't we know the wife was there before? Why just now? And where is that Switzerland ambassador? Why did they keep the local Texas sheriff away?

12. No, tell the kids before he went public on the accident. I agree
with your other questions ! And I do think the whole thing is f'd up - I just studied his demeanor and face when he was describing the shooting and it appeared he was being honest at that point.

3. I was wondering how Cheney looked during the interview. If Britt is
"allowed" to ask hard questions, maybe the power behind Junior really is getting ready to push Cheney out. Hope Rice is NOT the new VP.

6. Similar to FBI head William Sullivan's suspicious death
This alleged "accident" has shades of William Sullivan's hit. William C. Sullivan, former head of the Federal Bureau of Investigations intelligence operations and co-architect of the original and current COINTELPRO.

"Sullivan was shot with a high-powered rifle near his New Hampshire home by a man who claimed to have mistaken him for a deer. The man was charged with a misdemeanor -- 'shooting a human being by accident'-- and released into the custody of his father, a state policeman. There was no further investigation of Sullivan's death."

9. Yes, that was interesting. I was totally shocked at his demeanor.
He was respectful but in no way, IMHO, did he fawn over Cheney like they always do.

Maybe they had not choice - Faux was the only taker and ever they were scorned for not getting the scoop? Other media would have been much harsher.

But, I bet you are right - he won't last until 08. I'd rather have creepy, criminal CON-di than John McCain. I don't think Condi can win in 08. But if McCain got in there he would have the stature of the office (he ! what's left of it) to campaign from....

39. Actually,
my apolitical husband called me into the bedroom to watch Hume interview Cheney. My first thought was to immediately discount the interview because it was Faux. But my husband, who doesn't really understand Faux News, kept saying, "Listen -- he's got him! He's got him!"

Go figure.

13. Except (Devil's Adv. here) the Whittington family likely is aware when the
VP of the US is hunting with their dad (uncle, whatever). They could probably connect the dots.
I still don't buy the excuse, though.
What bothers me most is keeping the local cops away.

10. Bush froze during 9/11 and Katrina and didn't know what to do
Now Cheney is BSing his way through an interview, unable to admit that he froze and had no idea what was going on or what he was doing during his own crisis, whether from alcohol, ineptitude or both.

How can either Bush or Cheney be relied upon to handle a national emergency the next time, when they've proven themselves completely incapable of decisive action when the chips are down?

That is the most curious thing to me as I've watch this 'story'. Where is she and why hasn't she spoken on Cheney's behalf? Wasn't she standing right next to him? Surely, she was much closer than the ranch owner!

So, how grassy or hilly could the terrain be, if she saw the incident from her car????

There are some (smart) hunters who don't drink at all before hunting. There are other hunters who get sloshed first. But NOBODY only has ONE beer before hunting...
