US reasoning behind decision not to release more Abu Ghraib photos
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 08:33 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
This is in response to the recent photos released by Australian TV network.

"The US government felt that it was better that the photographs not be released, not because that there was anything to hide,… but simply, that one, that we felt that it was an invasion of the detainees themselves to have these photographs come out and in addition it would simply fan the flames around the world and cause potentially further violence."

I have a few things to say on this matter:

How dare you feign concern over invading anything in regards to the detainees? These images, plus the ones previously released, prove, beyond a doubt, that you feel no concern for these people, or have any regard for their feelings.

Also, if your so concerned about fanning the flames of violence around the world, then why in the hell are you torturing other human beings! Did it never dawn on you that their families, friends and fellow countrymen might take moral offense to this? You are the ones guilty of fanning the flames of violence by committing these acts of torture!

I call you on your transparent lie. This is, as I and any other person who would take the time to consider this knows, all about you having something to hide.

The saddest thing about this for me is that my government shows no remorse for these actions. Instead like a criminal they try and lie and cover up these abuses for fear of retribution.

1. I wished that it never happened.
Who took these pictures and why?

2. I heard different accounts on the last set of photos that were released
Some said they were taken for "training" purposes, others that they were souvenirs.

I always wanted to believe that someone wanted there to be evidence of what had taken place, personally.

3. You are probably closer to the truth than most.... someone had
a clue and preserved the evidence for us all.

4. I've always wanted to think so
If it's true or not, the effect was the same. The crimes that have been committed were made public. What the world does with that knowledge remains to be seen.

6. For all we know they were taken as policy to show to other prisoners,
this is what will happen to you.

That was my very first thought.

8. Oh, our altruistic gov't wanted to protect the "detainees themselves?"
You can certainly see that in the photos. :sarcasm:
