Conversation overheard in Texas Starbucks today.
A beautiful day in Fort Worth today, with this family sitting next to me in Starbucks.

Man: "But can you believe how big a deal the media is turning this into?"
Woman: "Oh, and if it were anybody else, it would just be a hunting accident."
Man: "Do you think Newt Gingrich is going to be our man next?"
Woman: "Doesn't matter who it's going to be, I think people are so riled up over everything, they'll vote for the liberal."
Man: "Yep, they're gonna vote for change no matter who's up there."
Grandpa: "I think I know that Armstrong woman with the ranch down there, though; think one of her relatives rented a building from me."

These monied, landed Texas gentry-folk made me gag. At LEAST they were soft-spoken and polite during the whole thing.

1. Come to Ft Hood army base and listen to the troops;
"anti-Christ" is the popular nickname for Duhhhbya.

Mother-fucker is also popular (now ya know why it appears so often in my posts)

Rummy is probably the most hated man in the country, followed by Cheney, altho now it's huge gales of laughter at DeadEye Dick and his stupidity and senility.

No surprise, since 85% of the army is enlisted troops, and enlisteds are 3-1 Dem/Indy vs repubs. And even many of the outnumbered repubs are slamming bush & Cabal.

4. That's good to hear.
These people were the knee-jerk cons, so well-known to me from my own family. These are the men who think the sole purpose of government is to guard private wealth and their women think likewise cuz it serves their pursposes quite well.

6. Seriously?
Are you serious?

I know a lot of army guys and NONE of them are even CLOSE to being Dems. I REALLY REALLY need to leave this town.

All everyone talks about here is "letting California blow up if N. Korea starts a nuclear war."

18. I am absolutely serious.
In my hubby's entire platoon there is ONE repub...and he didn't vote coz he hates bush but couldn't bring himself to vote for a Dem.

And it's FACT;

85% of the military = enlisted troops.

Of the 85% enlisted troops, 2/3rds are Dems or Indys. 1/3 are repubs.

Makes sense; the majority of enlisted troops are minorities/non-Americans/poor.

21. AMEN! I've been saying this for months, lol--my hubby told me him and
his buddies at Camp Fallujah watch FOX News just so they can make fun of it (it's the only news they are allowed to see, but they make the best of it and I keep him updated of course).

The enlisted guys are not on board with this administration. Normally, the approval rate for any President within the military is very high. Not this time.

It's time for BushCo. to realize that these guys aren't stupid, and they aren't sheep, and they are tired of doing all of the fighting and dying for an administration in which no one can open his/her mouth without telling a lie.

3. Sorta brings you back to reality...
after reading all the hopeful messages here in DU land. People, we are so fucked here in Fort Worth it's ridiculous. We're outnumbered at least ten to one by total idiots who equate the word liberal with sinner.

One of my co-workers, a cute, dim blonde redneck woman said today, "sometimes Bush just embarasses me." I replied that "Bush always embarasses me," which must have been too subtle judging by her quizzical expression. Like most of my neighbors, co-workers and even some of my friends, she has absolutely no clue what is happening in this country. And she's thrilled to death about it.

That depresses the hell out of me.

7. Don't get too down, shate
Cuz before this eavesdropping, I had been to get my hair cut and yukked it up with the young female hairdresser who "hates this administration." It was refreshing, as much as it reminded me of my own fear about speaking up in mixed company around here.

9. AGHHHH!!!!
I was talking to a girl the other night and she was telling me how much of a Christian Bush was and how at least he was one politician trying to believe in something. I wondered if this girl was joking with me or not. I've seriously read the New Testament at least three times and have studied the Beatitudes literally hundreds of times and I do not see a correlation between GWB's actions and Christ's.

I get this all the time. It makes me want to smash things and tell people to wake the hell up!!!!

10. Kinda makes you sympathize with all those "good Germans"
who said they wanted to stop Hitler but didn't know how. I'm not calling Bush Hitler, but a whole bunch of Americans today would have made "good Germans".

14. There are some very DUMB people in this state
Oh, not everyone, just a majority of folks here, maybe 60%.

Among the gems I've heard are that Saddam paid money to the 9/11 hijackers, Bill Clinton gave the Panama Canal to Red China and Communism no longer exists because Reagan was president.

23. Well, guess what, Blue State Guy
. . . . My dogpile search says that Red China IS in charge of the Panama Canal. I had to check because that sounded very familiar to me.

Try this link:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/china/1999/e-11-18-99-5.htm
(just a snippet: )
Washington, Nov. 17 (CNA) The United States faces the possibility of a nuclear "Pearl Harbor" after President Bill Clinton okayed the ceding of US control over the Panama Canal and with seemingly growing Chinese influence there, warned Thomas H. Moorer, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on Wednesday.

Pointing to the fact that Panama has signed a 50-year lease for two ports at each end of the Canal with Hong Kong's Hutchison Whampoa company, run by Li Ka-shing, who is closely associated with the Beijing regime, Moore said this "gives China's Communist Party de facto control over the most strategic waterway in the West."

Moorer, illustrating a scenario where the US Navy is blocked from moving through the Panama Canal and Communist Chinese missiles and J-11 attack jets are poised to launch from Panama, said that Beijing could intimidate the US into surrendering Taiwan, Panama and other strategic concerns without a shot being fired.
________________________

but if you don't like that one, try looking it up yourself. If you type in "Panama Canal" in advanced search in dogpile and in the All of Thesee Words section, "Panama Canal Red China," you can pick which sources look credible to you on the subject.

But, fear not! Saddam did not pay the 911 hijackers and I do not know what Reagan has to do with Communism, but what the good ol' US of A is going to get will be alot harder to handle than Communism.

seem to have a grasp on the situation at hand. Too many don't know how deep in it we all are.

Someone a few years ago told me the night I met him that "yes, we are too late and in our lifetimes we'll see boat people from the US fleeing our shores looking for refuge." October 2001.

Peace all.

25. This is silly
Jimmy Carter signed that treaty in 1979. Clinton simply abided by the terms of that treaty 20 years later (sometimes we actually abide by treaties we sign in this country). The treaty turned over the canal over to Panama, and they can trade with whoever they damn well want to.

I've never heard of that crank website, and I don't take it seriously. It looks kind of neo-conish.

the search I did came up with pages of websites, I just picked that one to pick one.

But If you're not curious about the situation that's okay.

and I can't get used to willful idiocy like this either, so don't feel so bad.

You know, I just had an idea: I think I'm going to call my State Rep candidates and ask them, "why the Republican Party?" I truly am curious, but I feel a little like rocking the boat lately.
