Chert Off

Hey, Skeletor - let's make this simple. If a hurricane overwhelms you, WE DON'T WANT YOU HANDLING A TERRORIST ATTACK. OKAY?

Time for this weak and ineffective crony to hit the bricks - and take the guy who gave him the job with him.

Republicans are WEAK, WEAK, WEAK. Can we please start hammering that home?

Chertoff: Katrina 'overwhelmed' us
Homeland security secretary chastised by Senate panel

The Republican and Democratic leaders of a Senate committee chastised Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff on Wednesday as a congressional inquiry found that thousands of Hurricane Katrina’s victims could have been spared though better planning and faster action.

For his part, Chertoff acknowledged missteps on his watch, “many lapses” and said he accepted responsibility. He called the storm “one of the most difficult and traumatic experiences of my life.”

“We now know our capabilities were simply overwhelmed by the magnitude of this storm,” Chertoff said.

I was listening to Norm Ornstein on Al Franken's show a few days ago. He said that combining so many departments into one huge Homeland Security Dept. was a big, big mistake. None of it will work efficiently for years to come. If this is what the repugs mean by smaller government, we have not seen the last of these disastrous results. This needs to be addressed, and soon.
Look at the total ineptness for Katrina, something we all saw coming and had days to prepare for. How will this crony-appointed person handle a terrorist attack or a devastating earthquake?

3. Good to know
I'm sick of these losers going before Senate committees, getting a little spanking and then back to business as usual. There is no accountability when they lie under oath or admit they can't handle the job. Then we stop talking about it...until the next disaster.

2. Chertoff, although he said he accepted responsibility, just blamed Brown.
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 02:19 AM by Wordie
...and he really didn't like the idea of FEMA being taken out from under DHS, as Brown had suggested, which increasingly sounds like a good idea to me.

He kept bashing Brown, saying he began to have concerns about Brown's performance fairly early on...but then one Senator asked why then he didn't share those concerns with Bush, and reminded Chertoff that Bush might not have made his famous "heckuvajob" comment, if Chertoff had shared his concerns with him...

Chertoff at that point seemed to give a non-answer...as many of his answers seemed to be.

6. Hi, Wordie
He can blame Brown all he wants, and rightly so, but Chertoff is also incapable of doing his job. Brown being gone hardly resolves the problems at DHS. This administration has made a mess of everything!

For you:

7. Thanks sweetie
A little late in the evening for a rant but the earthquakes, hurricanes and God knows what else aren't going to wait until DHS is running smoothly, right? I'm so frustrated that this will be forgotten in a few days. I see Condi is asking for millions to deal with Iran? Oy.

5. Does he have ANY qualifications?
As I recall, the only notable thing previous was that he was one of Ken Starr's crotch sniffers.

8. Hmmm...
Perhaps Starr wrote Chertoff's resume. He seems to be good at forging letters.
