"South Park" Parked by Complaints
By Sarah Hall

Did Comedy Central grant the Catholic League its Christmas wish?

Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled "Bloody Mary," the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.

It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation.

In the episode, a statue of the Virgin Mary is believed to be bleeding from its rear end, inspiring faithful parishioners to flock from miles around to be healed by the miraculous blood.
...................................................................................................................................................................

My favorite piece: The conservative group demanded an apology from Viacom, Comedy Central's parent company, to Roman Catholics everywhere and " a pledge that this episode be permanently retired and not be made available on DVD."

Because, as we all know, people never make a DVD purchase on the basis of free will...

1. Message to the Catholic Church:
Suck it up and get over it. If you can't take South Park poking fun at you, then maybe you should grow a thicker skin.

7. That would have to have been my favorite episode.
I think Cartman became an evangelist in order to bilk people out of their money, but all I cared about was more of Satan's relationship with that new guy, and Saddam Hussein's continued attempts to get back into Satan's life.

3. That was a good episode.
But I thought the hilarity was directed more toward alcoholism being a disease and AA.

4. Catholic League not representative of rest of Church
Donahue cares about the political religous right and not the RCC as a whole. He follows the political fundies 100% to get attention.

I saw that episode and was not offended by it.

5. Why do these idiots watch this stuff, anyway?
There are all kinds of religious channels they could watch, but they seem to head straight for the shows they can pick a fight with. It's weird how these fanatics want to control what everyone else might want to watch. It's crazy.

6. pfft... there are bootleg copies on the net. it'll never fully die.
Just like any other popular tv show, someone ripped it as it was broadcast with a video in card, edited the commercials out, and re-encoded it in a small format such as DivX.

good luck finding EVERY copy now.

8. Not to defend the Catholic League, but
South Park is a right wing hate fest disguized as "comedy". Liberals get skewered, and much more intensely than any frothing wing nut, every time I see it (which is not that much).

I say let them eat each other and we can be rid of both.
