In 1999, the Inaugural Committee was chaired by Allan Shivers, Jr. with cochairs Pam Willeford and Ramona Bass. Raul Romero was the finance chair. The theme for the inaugural festivities for Governor George Walker Bush and Lieutenant Governor Rick Perry was "Together We Can."

ALLAN SHIVERS, JR.

Allan "Bud" Shivers, Jr., of Austin has a variety of business and professional interests and is active in numerous civic endeavors.

Shivers was chairman of Waste Recovery, Inc. from 1990 until 1996. He served as executive vice president of RCM Corporation and president of Four S Orchards. Shivers was a director of Mbank Austin from 1979 to 1990, chairman of MPACT Securities from 1983 to 1987 and was a founder of Windsor Savings Association.

He is a 1968 finance graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. His late father served as governor of Texas.

Shivers has served on a number of boards of directors. He has served as chairman of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission since 1995, and was a commissioner from 1988 to 1992. He is chairman of The Seton Fund and has served as chairman and in several other offices at the Shivers Cancer Center. He has been a member of the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research since 1975, an executive committee member of the Texas Association of Taxpayers since 1988, and the Headliners Foundation since 1990.
