3 January 2005 (# 29)
Just saw the wonderful news at
The Hotline regarding DNC fund raising for 2005:
Your leadership is a significant factor in the DNC success and, more importantly, the manner in which you have helped each State’s Democratic committee is remarkable. As Kos notes:
… when Dean goes on fundraising trips to the states he lets the locals keep the money. He's raising money for the state parties, which isn't reflected in these numbers. The state parties love him for it. In the past, people like McAuliffe would come in and vacuum up money from the locals and send it to DC. This makes these numbers all that much more remarkable.

If ever America needed to recognize that “center” as a political position is meaningless, it should be now.
The vast corruption of the Republican organization is obvious to even the minimally informed. The avarice, the imperialism, the willful disregard of all law and of our civil liberties defines the Republican neoconsters. We truly live at a time when the choice is good or evil, right or wrong, law or lawlessness, liberty or oppression.
It is essential that every Democratic elected representative of the people, and candidate for office in 2006, drive that contrast as hard and unrelenting as possible.
You have great champions of civil liberties, of respect for the law, and of humanity in the Democratic Party and they are the ones who need to be brought before all our fellow citizens and allowed to proclaim the choice of
“America, Or Not?” The message should be that -- If you stand with Conyers, Boxer, Lee, Feingold, Waxman, Hinchey, and many other Democrats, you stand for America.
Otherwise, the message should be that the person has decided that a totalitarian oligarchy that wages ruthless wars of aggression for imperialistic goals is the government they support and that they, along with Bush and the neoconsters, regard the American Constitution as nothing more than a piece of paper.
On another topic, I’ve been asked why I direct my correspondence to you and not others. I decided to use the convention of these letters to you for several reasons.
Firstly, it is an honor to be able to offer perspectives and suggestions to an ethical and effective leader.
Next, you are the Chair of the DNC and it seems efficient for me to direct the contents of the letters to you. It would be a waste of time to send them to Al From, for instance.
And, by composing and posting the information in a letter format, I hope, in a small way, to help others by explicitly stating that they can cut and paste any of the content and send it to whomever they wish to communicate.
What these letters are not is a critique of you or of the DNC, and they are not anything more than one person’s perceptions and suggestions.
Thank you for your successful and continued leadership,
