What's with the "We saved the Brooklyn Bridge via illegal spying"?
I've heard that several times in the past several times, it even made it into neocon Kathleen Parker's op-ed recently, as well as a LTTE in my local paper.

I'm sure it's BS, but where is it coming from?

3. Kathleen Parker's column must be cheep.
My local fishwrap has it too. I have to say... I loathe her.

I'm sure that Brooklyn Bridge stuff is crap too, but how can one disprove something like that? It's like saying my special alien spray has kept away Martians. See?! It's working!!!

4. IIRC, the idiots that were trying
to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge were going to use blowtorches, which would have taken tem approximately 80 years to cause enough damage to collapse a pier. Whether or not there was illegal (or even legal)) spying doncha think somebody might have seen them?

5. I thought
that they were planning to cut all the wires on the bridge to make it collapse. they said it would take them weeks to cut them all.

7. here is the line from her op-ed...
>>Maybe thousands didn't get blown up on the Brooklyn Bridge as Iyman Faris had plotted because agents wiretapped Faris' phone.

It wasn't just her column, though. I've seen it in LTTEs and other places as well.

9. I thought the joke was you "SELL" the Bridge, not "SAVE" it!

10. Apparently they located a couple of nuts with a plan
They'd dismantle the Brooklyn Bridge with blowtorches because, obviously, it would only take a minute or two and no one would notice them. :eyes:

Even Bob Barr scoffed at that defense.

BARR: Well, first of all, or last of all, this so-called plot to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge was bogus because it had to do with a group of idiots who were planning to dismantle it with blow torches.

12. Thanks
and, if it took them 80 years to do it, that's certainly enough time to get a warrant, don't you think?
